200+ WordPress sites now run Queryra AI search. Not a marketing number: it's the active install count on WordPress.org, anyone can check it. In July it was around 30. Thanks to everyone who installed it, tested it and told us what was broken.

Small fix, real impact. A shopper searched "toallas" (towels). The product was called "Toalla". Exact match missed it. Queryra now matches singular and plural product names, Spanish too. Live on every account. People search for what they want, not your product titles.

I looked for every WordPress AI search plugin with a live demo you can type into. Three had one. The rest: videos and a signup form. I ran the same 10 kinds of query on all three, each on its own demo. I build one of them. Published what came back, the bad results too.

Everyone selling AI search says "100+ languages". I build one. So I tested five real catalogues in five languages and published the failures too. Two worked. Three broke.

German wool shop. I typed "etwas Warmes für kalte Hände". Zero results. The shop sells merino hand warmers. They were sitting right there.

What I would take from all of it: Twenty results is not a good sign. Zero results is honest. A full page of near-misses looks like it worked. Pick ten queries your customers actually type. Check if the right product is FIRST. queryra.com/blog/ai-search-f…

Most "our search is broken" complaints I look into are not search problems. A store had a product called Water Bottle. Search kept ranking a thermos above it. The description on the Water Bottle record was about fridge magnets.

Search reads what you wrote, not what you meant.

Before you switch plugins, open ten of your own product descriptions and read them as a stranger looking for that product. You will find at least one that describes something else.

Last week I opened a shop's search log and found this query: uFbX'kCSAQp<'">)yLNODq Nobody types that. 25 of the 30 queries in that window were the same thing. Here's what it is and what it's actually costing you.

The rule underneath all three: Look for structure no human would produce. Not for characters that look unusual. Your catalogue is made of unusual characters.
