My goal for my MHC4OC practice is to finish getting the credentials to be a EMDR consultant/trainer and a NYS CE provider so I can use the money I make training therapists to fund free somatic therapy for low income Black people
That seems to be the most sustainable path

ns with all the viral induced cognitive decline and dementia, i think a lot of folks genuinely don't remember unless it just happens to be brought up.
What I love is not just the wordplay, but there’s literally cultural references that if you weren’t around for that era, you might not get all of them
This song is a time capsule in a way so it makes sense that maybe Gen Z or younger might not catch it

I don’t rely on romantic relationships for that.
My retirement plan is with my chosen family
That way, I’m able to focus on being the best version of myself in a more relaxed way instead of worrying about building with every person who comes along

I’m not saying everyone needs relationship anarchy
I am saying relying on socialization isn’t working out for everyone. People are still lonely or unfulfilled. Kids are missing out on a wider community w/ the focus on nuclear families
A balance at least would do many folks good

Part of what makes relying on non-romantic partners feel impossible is when all your friends, etc are also relying only on romantic partners. When everyone is putting their eggs in the romantic basket, it’s hard to see anything else as possible
I had to start looking.

To add a bit more detail: I had several conversations over the years with friends I had and then started more serious in depth conversations with the friends who were with it. And then we started including each other in the important aspects of our lives. Living wills, bills, etc

Some of y’all peoples known you for YEARS so why rely on someone who got milk on their tongue relatively speaking? Just some food for thought. Following what capitalism/white supremacy values leaves many ppl lonely
Again, I’m not speaking nothing I don’t actually live myself

Imagine groups of close friends and chosen families being each others’ Power of Attorneys, health care proxies, etc.
If they fed each other, went to Dr appts, supported each other financially, helped with child care, etc.

All relationships take work. So many ppl put all their energies into romantic connections & leave their friendships, etc to wither/die. That’s how so many ppl end romantic relationships & suddenly have no friends outside of their ex-romantic partner. xitter.cf/queeringpsych/status/1…

Another thread: you don’t have to settle and compromise your happiness just to make sure you won’t die old & alone. That’s not even a healthy reason to get married or have kids anyway. There’s better, more intentional ways to build life security xitter.cf/queeringpsych/status/1…

Many ppl, esp cis women, put their lives on pause while they search for “the one”...and many ppl are living half-lives waiting to actually live. Socialization teaches us to not to really value or notice other kinds of relationships/connections xitter.cf/queeringpsych/status/1…

The way the world is going, we need unpack the socialization around the kinds of relationships & families that are valued in this society. A lot of elders are dying alone & lonely. And a lot of us are relying on the hope that romantic partners might stick around.
It’s very colonizer to only rely on nuclear fam (spouse & kids). Our ancestors were community-minded. You ain’t gotta “die alone” w/o a romantic partner. Your squad could build a chosen fam, live together, share finances, check in on each others health etc queeringpsychology.com/2018/…

Or your chosen family ☺️
Reminder that socialization is the main thing stopping you from remixing your relationships & fitting your connections to what you need, not what’s expected
I’m never getting married so instead of dying without deep connections, I built with others

And relatedly, the solution to this isn’t just non-cis men marrying each other. The ultimate solution comes with dismantling systems because since it wasn’t made for us (no matter how we try to swing it) the House always wins their own game.

There’s a piece many folks are missing. The point is not to continue to “try to make the system work for you”.
The system is not set up to work for you. What if same-sex marriage is ever repealed? What then? The end goal is to divest from all of that & make something new
Muting/Blocking = Self Care retweeted
This partly why I encourage building w/ chosen fam. Harmful cis men get too many chances b/c socialization says folks can’t build a secure/happy future w/o men
Building w/ chosen fam & keeping cis men more casual unless they specifically fit your lifestyle might be a better fit

Also be careful that you don’t get suckered into being their fake therapist. Lending an ear is 1 thing. Them turning you into the only person they talk to about traumas (usually so that becomes their excuse for bad behavior) is very draining/soul-sucking
Muting/Blocking = Self Care retweeted
This is like trying to befriend/love white people out of their racism and out of their systemic power
You can’t individually love men out of their place in systemic patriarchy
This is literally what those with power (you don’t have) want you to think so nothing ever changes

lol he's not trying to be malcolm x. he's being his usual sabotuer self. his job is to taint anything that could be remotely revolutionary. 😭

The series is and will always be free because this essential info and I truly gaf about it getting out there
Because I’m hearing too many personal stories and getting too many new clients with previous medical trauma from EMDR done poorly.

If you have complex trauma & you’re having a hard time finding a EMDR therapist to properly prep you (also known as resourcing), I have an ongoing FREE blog & video series explaining how to prepare yourself for trauma work using the autonomic nervous system
