Just to clarify. YOU dont own ANY Bitcoin. You own the keys. In Bitcoin, that is ownership.Bitcoin does not live in your wallet, phone, or hardware device. It exists only as unspent outputs (UTXOs) recorded on a public ledger. A wallet is a key manager, not a vault. The private key is the secret that can produce a valid signature authorizing a spend. Whoever can produce that signature controls the coins. The network has no other concept of an “owner.” This is why the phrase “not your keys, not your coins” exists. If an exchange or custodian holds the keys, you have a claim against them—an IOU. They can freeze, lose, or spend the coins. Bitcoin is therefore a digital bearer asset. Possession of the secret is title, the same way possession of cash or a gold bar is title. There is no separate registry of owners, no deed, and no customer-support reset. Lose the keys and the coins become unspendable forever. Copy the keys and someone else can spend them. The protocol does not distinguish “you” from “anyone who knows the number.” Legal systems can treat Bitcoin as property and recognize claims against custodians, but the blockchain itself only enforces cryptographic control. Courts and governments can seize keys or compel you to sign; they cannot rewrite the ledger without those keys .So you never “own Bitcoin” in the sense of holding a discrete object separate from the keys.
