It’s interesting how the relationship with publishing has changed over time… like from hobby -> job but interacting with other things happening with life. Different goals now, and different obligations.

start doing one thing but then to finish that you need to first do the other thing but that thing requires you look up materials for a different unrelated thing which must be completed as a prerequisite but then that thing itself requires you finish another thing and...
There’s a lot of stuff where it’s simply not appropriate to publicly discuss the details behind your business partnerships. So when people discuss these things it’s usually in general terms and not divulging info about specific titles, authors, or business partners.
Now that a sizeable chunk of my time is spent licensing manga, one thing I've thought about is that even the basic information about how licensing/content acquisition works (not just for manga, but even for TV/Film on the US side) is very much kept behind closed doors.
Granted, it's mostly because many of the people involved with licensing are not in positions to talk candidly about it, but it definitely leads to a very large knowledge gap for the general public.
