Quality not quantity Just think how much better society could be if we stopped spending $ on things to cope with the constantly growing numbers of us & spent that on improving everyone's quality of life. Someone needs to think us out of this "growth in quantity" Ponzi-like scheme

A common human trait is to be blinded by short term gratification without due regard for the consequences. In fact, we've built an entire economic system around that trait. What could go wrong?

They can’t be that stupid,” now premier designate of Quebec, said on October 29, 2024, referring to the federal Liberals’ immigration policy goals en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centur…. Why Canadians don't get the implications of mass immigration on standards of living⬇️and resources⬇️?
“They can’t be that stupid,” is what then PQ leader, now premier designate of Quebec, Paul St.-Pierre Plamondon (PSPP) said on October 29, 2024, referring to the federal Liberals’ immigration policy, which he said matched and even exceeded the target of the Century Initiative, whose raison d’être is a Canadian population of 100 million by 2100. In other words, the reasons for Canada’s policy of mass immigration are all bogus. PSPP said the Century Initiative is based on “a very stupid assumption that growing the GDP makes you richer…but growing the size of your economy has nothing to do with wealth.” We’re not separatists, but he’s singing our song! In an article published on our website on October 30, 2025 (How Canada Was Destroyed Gradually and Then Suddenly), we suggest that Canada’s immigration disaster is a feature, not a bug. (And we’ve criticized the Century Initiative in plenty of other articles as well.) They knew that immigration would not solve any economic problems, PPSP says. “It’s impossible that they’re that stupid.” We agree. So, what’s the agenda? We suggested it was to turn Canada from a country into a “postnational state” to use then Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s own words. And we fear that Mark Carney, who was Trudeau’s economic advisor, is in lockstep with that agenda, even as he tells us that immigration is now under control. He appointed the Century Initiative’s two cofounders, Domnic Barton and Mark Wiseman, to important posts and spoke at the Century Initiative’s 2024 webinar. Should we trust him on immigration? xitter.cf/valdombre/status/18511…

Parti Quebecois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon goes off on mass immigration: "That Century Initiative is wrong. It's based on the very stupid assumption that growing the GDP makes you richer"

Hopefully most educated people now understand that mainstream media is a mere propaganda arm of the mass immigration lobby...
Replying to @SustPopAus
The mainstream media is trying to make us believe that if we don't import 1,000 extra people per day then Australian society will fall. Never mind that Canada and others have clearly benefitted from cutting the number of migrants. It always ignores rent stress and homelessness.

The assumption that there's still any sustainable, positive correlation between GDP growth & human/planetary well being, ... must surely now be dead in the water. Time to build a new post-growth economy.

The Catholic church has a thing called Papal infallibility stating that the pope is preserved from the possibility of error when he teaches a doctrine of faith. It seems we now also have "economist infallibility" when it comes to the doctrine of faith in "economic growth" preserving neo-liberal economists from the possibility of error, ... & so we continue to grow, & grow, & grow, even as the earth crumbles under the crushing weight of their infallible ideology.

It's amazing how often I must argue with people who are still on the old GDP/population growth playbook- people desperate to keep their "growth" models alive & growing, even as the planet collapses under the sheer weight of their ideology. I've shifted to the new playbook- smaller populations, smaller economies, smaller impacts- where lifestyle & environment are prioritised.

For years scientists warned: Clear 20-25% of the Amazon and it collapses. We've cleared 17%. This isn't a future problem. It's happening now.

It's become painfully clear that structuring our entire society around maximising profit instead of planetary health was a very bad idea.

Ottawa let them in. It has no idea if they left. About 2.1 million temporary residents have permits that expire this year. The immigration department admits it has no way to track whether people with no status to stay actually leave the country. The Auditor General checked one group: international students whose permits ran out in 2024. About 39,500 had no legal reason to stay. Ottawa could confirm only around 16,000 of them left. The fix, an exit tracking system, isn't due until the end of 2027. It's already behind schedule.

It sure is a problem. And Carney was Trudeau's economic advisor and spoke at the Century Initiative's 2024 webinar. We don't have high hopes that Carney will implement an immigration policy that benefits working Canadians. But we'll keep on pointing out how great that would be.

"I worry Mark Carney, because business lobby is going to pressure him that lobbying from them is going to cause him to make the same mistakes the previous governments have done, that he's going to see immigration as a solution for businesses. And that's a problem @mikalskuterud
So it looks like Canadians are once again being subjected to bovine fertilizer on mass immigration (as if the barrage ever really stopped). In our post on January 30, we warned: “PIC recognizes that Prime Minister Carney has slightly lifted his foot off the accelerator of Canada’s population growth but fears that he will push it down again when the various crises that Justin Trudeau’s mass immigration unleashed have abated a bit.” And that is exactly what seems to be happening now as Carney floats a “controlled increase” in Canada’s population (which the latest StatsCan updates indicate never actually stopped increasing). How remarkably similar Carney’s proposal is to the Century Initiative’s advocacy of using “responsible population growth” to reach a target of 100 million Canadians. We saw how that worked out – housing crisis, food bank crisis, homelessness crisis, affordability crisis, inflation, and maybe it even has something to do with the rising crime rate. ca.news.yahoo.com/carney-sug…

PM Carney said that he would implement a “controlled increase” in immigration. The question (that nobody has asked) is: ‘Controlled’ by whom? The Century Initiative? The real estate speculators? The business lobby, that wants cheap labor? The fake college industry? Slumlords?

Prime Minister Mark Carney calls it removing barriers to growth and development but to us Bill C-39, Building Canada Strong, introduced on September 21, seems like a power grab at the expense of the environment, labour rights, and parliamentary procedure. Environmentalists say it will gut regulations and union groups say it is an attack on the right to strike. And is it really a good idea that just Cabinet, not Parliament, gets to decide if it’s in the public interest to weaken the conditions-of-approval for a project? And does Canada even really need more growth and development? The Century Initiative thinks so, both of its cofounders, Dominic Barton and Mark Wiseman, are on Mark Carney’s “Team Canada.” thestar.com/politics/federal…

I started to read this interview, but I did not get this far. This confirms my fears - that essentially Carney has bought into the Century Initiative because he is chummy with Dominic Barton and Mark Wiseman. Carney talks like a business executive as well as seeing things like a neoliberal economist - for example, he wants freer trade with Europe for reasons like "labour mobility". The Conservatives need a new leader, if only to put Carney on the defensive when he says stuff like this, and to make high immigration levels toxic to any Liberal leaders.
PM Carney says in an interview with New York Times that his government will resume growing the population through mass immigration because that is "the nature of Canada". "So that will happen, and we just want to make sure that we’ve got it under control."

Mass immigration was always about other agendas than the ones we were given. Ageing population, skills shortages etc all just a smokescreen.
The older population has a higher share of migrants (37%) than the Australian economy as a whole (32%). This suggests that immigration is a major driver of Australia’s ageing population. Also, 50% of men over 90 were born overseas.

Comment about Carney from FB
Canada has the lowest marginal effective tax rate in the G7 for new business investment.   That’s going to drive more investment into Canada. That means more jobs, more opportunities, and a stronger economy for all.

We're surprised more "environmentalists" refuse to acknowledge this irrefutable link. Let's gain the humility to share this earth with other creatures by ending our unethical expansionist mentality... stop taking & start giving back!
