Smashing thread on the BBC from someone with love and respect for its purpose
I am genuinely sad about what’s happening at the BBC. I worked there (in chunks) for nearly a decade and left three and a half years ago. It’s not the same place I left and the challenges are really nuanced (I know nuance is tough on X but it’s important)🧵

If you're on a NHS waiting list somewhere, be comforted that in both Scotland and England they are spending literally millions of pounds on legal fees trying to force female nurses to get changed in front of men.
The Darlington nurses case could cost the NHS over £1.5m. NHS Fife’s legal costs in the Sandie Peggie case had already exceeded £400k — and that wasn’t the final bill. What could nearly £2 MILLION represent? 🩺 Around 39,000 GP appointments. 39,000 opportunities to assess symptoms, diagnose illness, manage long-term conditions and reassure patients. When people struggle to get a GP appointment, £2m sounds rather different. @NHSEngland @NHSResolution @DHSCgovuk @SexMattersOrg @JournalismSEEN @NHSScotland @NHSWales @ScotGovHealth @WGHealthandCare

Andy Burnham’s first target is pensioners - seriously? The UK state pension is half the National Living Wage. Labour want it to stay that way My Substack iainmacwhirter.substack.com/…

Part of what’s so strategically mad about unions alienating leftwing feminists is that most bloody trans activists will never join a union- their incomes are mostly leeched from gofundmes, their parents or, for the enterprising ones, porn.

What’s actually very sad, Caroline, is that people once looked to MPs like you as eloquent advocates for tackling the climate crisis; you single-handedly drew thousands of voters to your cause. Now, many of those same people, myself included, look at your party with dismay as the environment takes a back seat to cosying up to antisemitic Hamas sympathisers and gender ideologues who think the rights of cross-dressing men should usurp women’s rights and child safeguarding. You literally have a party leader who spends half his time speaking in foreign languages to appeal to particular communities. That isn’t bringing people together. It’s divisive. The Green Party used to offer something different to voters fed up with the failure of the main parties. Now it definitely offers something different - but not in a good way. I sincerely believe that every vote for the modern Green Party poses a risk to this country.
