I am so proud of my friend @AshutoshRanka who led the CJP protest. Of his courage, his conviction, and the model of citizenship he represents.
When another friend asked me “What are such people made of?”, I wanted to attempt an answer. So wrote this essay.

If such public space like this exist in India we wouldn't have to spend 2k ₹ in cafe just to meet friend.

More people should read this story on Ashutosh's background and how he chose the path of public work.
Deeply personal & great writing by @PySamarth

The Election Commission of India is under fire like never before.
The SIR has struck 13 crore names off draft rolls, putting the EC at the centre of intense public debate over its role in deciding who gets to vote — and who doesn’t.
HOWEVER, what nobody knew: through that same period, some of the sharpest questions were being asked from inside.

This is a must read article: samarthbansal.com/friend-are…
After the protests, I have been having such a hard time pinpointing what has changed inside me, or people like me. This article just did such a good job of it, which I couldn't have done. Whatever might have been the outcome of the protests can be subjective and might become irrelevant in the long term.
But it surely told people like me, who had lost all hope about the injustices happening in the country: that things can still change. And that you can do your part. I have seen totally apolitical people coming out and talking about their POV. I might never have spoken up in a propaganda discussion among uncles, or in a WhatsApp group of relatives or friends talking nonsense. But now I believe that things can change, and now I can raise my voice. Many people who believed nothing would change now believe that they can also raise their voice.

Reads straight out of a movie - @AshutoshRanka’s story is one of grit and determination.
What does it take to not give up in the face of near certain defeat? It takes a winner

Beautiful tribute. Public life demands you to be able to develop the ability to thrive despite being misunderstood by everyone around you. Much of what happens behind the scenes is rarely seen until you achieve stardom.
Replying to @PySamarth
This essay is about what happened before the protest: the choices, doubts, guilt, and years of unglamorous work Ranka put in when there were no cameras or spotlight.

No one is more annoyed by the AI revolution than people who can actually write a sentence. Basically, having any ability to write now is suspect - you will get accused of being AI at some point. It feels like you are being accused of being a witch, of holding a type of rare magic that only the machines are now allowed to have.

At @ottplayapp, I had a weekly column reviewing the latest Hollywood film and TV releases (including the occasional life-meets-cinema essays). I hope to continue the byline somewhere else, if possible. Putting it on here; I don't know how else to alert editors.
