My name is Will McGugan. 👋 I am the creator of Rich and Textual, and the founder and CEO of Textualize. At the end of last year I took a year off to work on my Open-source projects and develop an idea that I believe will allow the terminal to eat some of the browser’s lunch.

Just pushed v1.0.0 of a new Python package "rich-click". If you're already using #click, just switch your import to get awesomely formatted CLI help text and errors, courtesy of @textualizeio #Rich 🌈✨

My @PyDataGlobal 2021 talk on how to start using #agile for your #datascience & #analytics team is now public on YouTube!
"Agile projects are 28% more successful than traditional projects" but most data teams don't use agile. Here's your starter guide 👉 youtube.com/watch?v=7HR-vrYN…

Seen some tweets about #Python lambdas recently.
There are alternatives to lambdas which are still one-liners but are faster and (arguably) simpler.
Let's look at a few.

TIL the small (~15 people) but humble consulting company @QuantStack carries a ton of weight in the Jupyter and package management communities:

The list of projects they led is impressive

My favorite book on MLOps and ML Pipelines is this book by @vtuulos
manning.com/books/effective-…
It introduces human-friendly APIs that are practical & easy to use.
Many tools promote fake rigor via unnecessary complexity and poor documentation. This book avoids that.

This is a really nice profiler for Python. It generates a nice tree view in the terminal that help you drill down in to where your code is spending the most time.

💪 Challenge:
1) Solve #AdventOfCode using the latest & greatest Python tech.
2) Write tests for everything, just to test @pytestdotorg. Also everyone will want to hire you.
3) Report bugs to package maintainers.
4) Sail into 2022 knowing you did good.

Teaching my nine-year-old about the divide and average method for computing square roots.
The math was each to teach, but the #Python coding presented many challenges.
In instructor-speak, these are called “learning points” 😉

(Of course) XGBoost does not always win on tabular datasets. Made a HW where students got to tinker w. hyperparam tuning techniques (grid search, randomized search, Hyperopt, Optuna, successive halving) and algos (GBMs and everything in scikit-learn + mlxtend). Top-10 results:

🤯Wait... this can't be right. Right?🤯
Just tested creating a SQLite database on github.dev, using solely Pyodide; and ran a query against it with pandas.
All in the browser.
No VM, no cloud-hosted resources; just @Github and the WASM-y Python data science stack.
