My theory on CFB and the power to be changing the sport: Fans won't stop watching, despite unpopular changes (playoff expansion, bloated non-regional conferences, revolving door of talent, flawed TV setups) But where fans will push back is paying to go to games. Teams that have less identity because of roster turnover, playing a random team recently added to the conference from across the country that you have no shared history with, in a game that has less significance because 24 teams are going to make the playoff, at a kickoff time that was announced with a week's notice and is at a time that is difficult to get into town and tailgate for, all while paying a ticket price that goes up 10% each year to fund some renovations. Less enthusiasm means fans will opt out, pocket the money, and watch on TV. The powers to be are correct. More TV money and ratings are out there if you keep listening to them. But your core fans are going to be replaced with more and more empty seats.
