Dr. @PushpamK , Professor, University of Sussex Business School, UK, and former Chief Economist, United Nations Environment Programme, delivered an insightful lecture on “Moving Beyond GDP: Capturing Climate Change in Inclusive Wealth of Nations.”
The session explored the limitations of GDP as a measure of progress and highlighted the importance of tracking changes in produced, human, and natural capital. Drawing on global trends from 1991-2019, Dr. Kumar demonstrated how GDP growth can mask the depletion of natural capital and underscored the need for stronger wealth accounting and data to address the triple planetary crisis.
The lecture highlighted the growing global momentum towards moving beyond GDP and advancing pathways for sustainable, carbon-neutral growth.
