Replying to @Grady_Booch @ICooper
ALL software is abstraction. It can’t be anything but. Why are we so repeatedly, stubbornly, and generationally stupid and undereducated. This is why we get sold LLM’s.
It’s cliche and overstated at this point, but witnessing mass layoffs at your company is just so shattering. Grateful to still have a job, but I cant’t quite process the number of colleagues just cast aside. Bad times.
The unwavering belief some engineering leaders place in “just sprinkle more metrics and controls onto build pipelines” as a magical fix for issues in sociotechnical systems always leaves me in awe. I should really expect less by now, but it still catches me off guard.
Awesome first day of #dddeu, with the Residuality Theory workshop by @TechnologyTulip - “Plato is the Devil!”

I just got access to Google’s new MusicLM and…
Wow.
No exaggeration when I say this will change the music industry.

My first-ever published short story just came out in the brand-new issue of The Iowa Review (@IowaReview). It's a dream come true for me. Here's a link to the story:

having a machine provide explanations for you is a thought terminating device! it is the opposite of learning!
Has anyone recorded a session of #mobprogramming with the team using a coding assistant and #tdd? I’m curious to see how folks are fitting it into their workflows, if at all
It’s wild, I’ve been writing software for a living for the best part of 20 years now, and there’s still days where the feeling of being a total imposter overwhelms. Which is to say, if I am really an imposter after all, it’s something I’m *good* at!
I never realised that having a kid that’s a toddler would be so instructive when it comes to working with the C suite
Watching from afar as someone is writing an “architecture principles document“ at work, and boy howdy, does the tone make and content me feel like just copy+pasting “Seeing Like a State” into it
What advice do folks have for learning to communicate with executives as an IC? The art of parsing their statements of wanting more scope in less time, and turning it into something that meets what they _actually_ want is completely lost on me.

🚨 | Valtteri Bottas has responded to the FIA's ban of "political" statements in F1:
"I don't understand why they want to control us. I think we should have the right to talk about what we want."

I’m curious as to how folks feel about DORA metrics being used at the organizational level, rather than the team level. Seems like it’d be too noisy to gain useful insights…but I’m not a leader, so I could be wrong :) #devops #dorametrics #continuousdelivery
