“Time and time again, we’ve seen examples…of large-scale transit investments harming low-income residents and locally owned businesses. Now…will we let it happen again?”

"Our goal is ambitious, but the stakes are high. The Purple Line is a nearly $10b transit project. Its success should be measured by how well it bolsters communities & serves the people who live & work along the corridor" @PurpleLineCC @EnterpriseNow baltimoresun.com/2024/07/19/…
Last Friday, one of the SBAN Conference mobile workshops hosted by @PurpleLineCC visited four PLCC-designated “equity areas,” where several Black, Latino, and immigrant-owned businesses are adapting to physical changes & market shifts from the Purple Line - check out highlights:
All aboard! We’re hosting a mobile workshop at @SBANinPlace’s #SBANConference23 today, in partnership with @ledcmetro.
Back on the bus, we rode past future @PurpleLineMD stations while Javier Rivas from @TLCrossroads shared how multiple levels of government can/have come together to support businesses through construction, including through construction disruption grants.
Last stop! 🚉 A mural hunt and delicious lunch at @elgolforest! We heard from @MHPartners about longtime placemaking efforts in @Longbranch_MD and Delegate @PGCMDeniTaveras on her continued commitment to residents in the @PurpleLineMD corridor. Great way to end #SBANConference23!

Thank you @PurpleLineCC & @ledcmetro for inviting me to speak about the Purple Line w/ attendees of the @SBANinPlace conference. The Purple Line is an important & needed project, but we have to work together to ensure it doesn’t displace current residents & businesses.
SBAN Member, the @PurpleLineCC, was recently featured in a @Shelterforce article on how underinvested communities prepare for the "painful paradox" that increased funding brings. See how PLCC is working to build affordable housing near the purple line: shelterforce.org/2023/10/06/…
