It’s pathetic that we don’t tell stories like this in school. We gloss over the American Revolution in a week’s time & offer no insight into the stories of heroism & sacrifice. It’s a cheap version of history & our heroes deserve better.
We were meant to be so much more.
Johann de Kalb left a Bavarian farm at sixteen. Taught himself French waiting tables. Talked his way into the French Army on merit alone, in a system built to keep men like him out.
By 1777 he was a major general in the Continental Army, freezing at Valley Forge, drilling men who had nothing. He was fifty-six years old.
At Camden in August 1780, Horatio Gates marched a half-starved army into a disaster he had no business commanding. When the American left flank saw the British line, they ran. Gates himself fled the field. Sixty miles before he stopped.
De Kalb did not run.
His horse was shot. He hit the ground. He got up. Three musket balls. He kept moving. Bayoneted. He did not go down.
His aide finally shielded his body and shouted his identity to the British soldiers to stop the blows. They brought him to Cornwallis.
Cornwallis called his own surgeons. Told de Kalb he was sorry to see him so badly hurt. De Kalb thanked him and said he was dying the death he had always prayed for. The death of a soldier, fighting for the rights of man.
He died three days later. August 19, 1780. He had never owned a single acre of American soil. He owed nothing here. He held the line with his body when there was nothing else left to hold it with.
The monument at Camden calls him the unconquered friend of liberty. It is the right word.

BREAKING: Kennesaw State to swap National Anthem for “Lift Every Voice and Sing” at Thursday’s football game against Liberty, in Honor of the “Kennesaw Five”.
Athletic Director made the announcement this morning at a breakfast honoring the group. He went on to say that “We need to do a better job of honoring our students who feel like the USA does not represent their interests”.

Pat Buchanan ran for the Republican nomination in 1992 & 96. He was viewed as an isolationist & shunned by party elite.
He then joined the Reform party (founded by Ross Perot). Along w/ Ron Paul, these men were the originators of America 1st. Why didn’t DJT leverage them?

Liberty has a large school of aeronautics and numerous professors that are retired combat aviators. It really shouldn’t be that difficult to make this happen.
1) The one everyone will hone in on is the Academics alignment. And they’ll do so because they believe what they hear from outsiders, despite arguing against it. Do this for me… locate a school (public or private) that doesn’t have an online presence in 2026.
5) In fact, there aren’t many universities that have all of the below:
- FAA certified aeronautics program
- COCA Med school
- ABET Engineering program
- ABA Law school
- APA Psychology
- CACREP Counseling
- CCNE Nursing School
And more… All of these are what you would want.
Our NIL is fine for where we are in CUSA. Our Revenue share is likely much higher. That’s the difference maker. Are we going to drop double-digit figures on a football roster soon? Probably not until we get into the AAC/ACC. But that doesn’t mean LU isn’t ready to spend big…

JMU’s performance vs its spend is better than LU’s. JMU has dominated the SBC in football since they joined. Outside of our 1st yr (2023) LU has not. Our advantage in funding vs CUSA is greater than JMU vs SBC.
But we’re told that we have to be patient and not say mean things.

JMU's athletic budget is $18.1M (29.8%) higher than the American average.
The Sun Belt average includes JMU, which spends $18M more than the conference's next highest school, Old Dominion.
