Through its royalties on six producing mines operated by Nutrien and Mosaic, Altius has a deep understanding of the province’s potash industry and its decision to invest in Buffalo - the only potash developer in its portfolio - makes this partnership particularly significant.
Including its $3 million equity investment earlier this year, Altius will have committed $11.5 million to Buffalo once both tranches of the current financing close.

I asked @buffalopotash $BUFF.V, a potash developer aiming for production soon, how much attention he pays to the macro environment, and how much of their business strategy is driven by beta versus alpha relative to potash prices.
Commodity producers are naturally exposed to price cycles, but a developer should ideally be able to execute its strategy and create value across different price environments.
Asking this helps reveal whether management is overly dependent on high prices, or whether they have a plan that can still work if the macro turns.
