The City of Tshwane Mayoral Sub-Committee on Illegal Townships engaged with residents of Leeuwfontein, near Mamelodi, as part of its feedback meetings following consultations with 17 illegal townships across the municipality between October 2025 and June 2026.
Leeuwfontein is one of three illegal townships selected for the pilot project.
The City has commenced feasibility studies and profiling of the area as part of the process towards formalisation.
Residents in the three identified pilot areas are warned against erecting new structures, as any unauthorised structures built during this process will be demolished.

We passed by the famous Road D3727 from Mulima to Tshitale in Makhado Local Municipality, Vhembe District, which is being upgraded to tar. We are satisfied with the progress which has reached 87% completion. This is one of 21 projects committed during SOPA.

I am deeply disappointed by the continued attempts by former Executive Mayor Cilliers Brink to exploit the water crisis in Bronkhorstspruit for political advantage, including through misleading claims about cholera.
At a time when residents are understandably concerned about their health and safety, Mr Brink has chosen to amplify fears of another cholera outbreak without adequately explaining the scientific findings available to date.
Let me be absolutely clear: cholera has not been identified as the cause of the gastrointestinal illness outbreak in Bronkhorstspruit.
