Lots of strong opinions on this platform without an announcement of the details of how this will work. I was part of the pilot at AER so I can open the curtain a little (though of course who knows how things will change post-pilot under full implementation).

We find institutional and empirical support for these rules in Brazil(see the beautiful parallel trends).
Empirically, we find that protected sectors gained employment and downstream sectors lost employment, but upstream sectors were not significantly affected.
Using a model to aggregate these effects, we find antidumping duties, in the setting of Brazil, weakly increased employment but significantly reduced welfare.

Scenario planning is much more important than prediction right now

I think people need to admit that we've moved on from risk to Knightean uncertainty where forecasts are largely meaningless. No one knows anything is extreme but closer to the truth than not. We have decades of work showing that the most we can do in these cases is scenario planning and maxmin, trying to avoid the worst scenarios and navigating towards the best ones.

Very happy to see our paper on TCJA’s corporate tax cuts out in the AER.
We ask:
1) How large are economic distortions from the corporate income tax?
2) Who bears in the incidence?
A short summary thread.
