We 🇱🇻 were way too patient, way too tolerant to accept such misleading, Russian agression justification... Independent 🇷🇺 journalism has to be treated with great precaution and triple checking.
Finally the 🇱🇻 government took the right decion, which had to be taken already long time ago. Thanks to @janisdombrava and @Braze_Baiba for executing this. – at Gangelt, Deutschland
I can now confirm that yesterday I was notified of my expulsion from Latvia where I lived for 12 years. This, I believe, is a long-brewing revenge by far right politicians for my investigation into their links to Russian neo-Nazis who found refuge in Kyiv and who circulated the manifesto of Christchurch shooter in 2019. It is also a punishment for my commentary on the Russian aggression in Ukraine and for Pavel Sheremet investigation.
The notification doesn’t point to any specific misdemeanours or statements which prompted the decision. I was declared persona non grata, a status designed for diplomats who enjoy immunity from prosecution, not for ordinary people. This was done - as far right politicians who spearheaded the decision openly admit - in order to deny me justice in the Latvian court system: PNG status cannot be appealed in courts. This makes me conclude that I am facing political persecution.
For me it is a huge personal tragedy. I am being evicted from my only beloved home, deprived of my circle of friendship and support. I love Latvia, the land of my ethnic Latvian ancestors, and have no sense of revenge. I will always remain pro-Latvian. It makes me immensely sad that high positions in the Latvian government have been captured by forces whose closest political relation is Putin and who are using Putin’s aggression in Ukraine as a pretext for eroding the rule of law and democracy in the European Union.
My stance on the war in Ukraine remains unchanged. I condemn the Russian aggression and support Ukraine’s sovereignty over occupied territories. Ukraine is a wound in my heart, not a source of political gain as it is for my persecutors. But I’ll continue to criticise Western countries for mishandling this conflict and not acting in the best interests of the Ukrainian people. I shall not be gagged.
Shame on those who understand what is happening but look away or buy into smear campaign waged against me by the pro-war lobby and far right info dumps. One day, they’ll come for you, too.

At 6:29 a.m. on October 7, 2023, Palestinian Hamas terrorists invaded Israel.
They stormed communities, murdered families in their homes, raped, burned and kidnapped.
Three years on, Israel remembers the victims and the barbarity of Palestinian jihadist terrorism.
We will never forget.

A Letter on forests to Ursula von der Leyen
Sweden consists of almost 70% forest land. We Swedes have cared for the forest and lived in it, by it, and from it for generations. It has warmed our homes in the winter, provided timber for our houses, and sustained entire communities. Every child learns woodworking in school. The forest is part of our culture and a central element of the right of public access, where every Swede enjoys great freedom and takes great responsibility.
In large parts of Europe, the landscape is flat. When we speak of our vast forests in the EU, some believe we mean small parks – they have rarely seen anything that can compare to a Nordic coniferous forest.
While other European countries spent centuries cutting down large parts of their forests, we have continued to use ours – but also to replant. We create jobs, build climate-smart wooden houses instead of concrete ones, and develop biofuels from forest residues that replace gasoline in the tank. Today, forestry provides a livelihood for around 140,000 Swedes.
Another northern country that sells a lot of timber is Russia. After the invasion of Ukraine, many countries stopped buying Russian wood and turned instead to Sweden and Finland. That prevents money from flowing into the Russian war chest and creates jobs here in the Nordics.
The EU’s current framework for forest use, known as LULUCF, is a major problem and, if not revised, would lead to unreasonable and unjustified restrictions on Swedish forestry. We have managed our forests for hundreds of years, and we know how to do it well. To in practice severely restrict large parts of Nordic forestry is the wrong path to take, for many reasons. When Swedish trees become wooden houses or biofuels, it reduces Europe’s climate footprint.
That is why today, together with Finland’s Prime Minister @PetteriOrpo, I have sent a letter to European Commission President Ursula @vonderleyen. We want the EU to truly make use of the flexibilities available within the LULUCF legislation – for the sake of the climate, and for Europe’s security.
Allowing us to care for and use the vast forests of the Nordic region is not only about safeguarding a Northern European tradition, it is also a prerequisite for the green transition. And it is far better for Europe’s security that timber is exported from stable democracies in the Nordics than from Russia.

I would like to reiterate Ukraine’s commitment to peace.
None of us wants an endless war. Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians. My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts.
We are ready to work fast to end the war, and the first stages could be the release of prisoners and truce in the sky — ban on missiles, long-ranged drones, bombs on energy and other civilian infrastructure — and truce in the sea immediately, if Russia will do the same. Then we want to move very fast through all next stages and to work with the US to agree a strong final deal.
We do really value how much America has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence. And we remember the moment when things changed when President Trump provided Ukraine with Javelins. We are grateful for this.
Our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday, did not go the way it was supposed to be. It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right. We would like future cooperation and communication to be constructive.
Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it in any time and in any convenient format. We see this agreement as a step toward greater security and solid security guarantees, and I truly hope it will work effectively.

NATO expansion is a myth. It is a Russian lie. Here is the map.
After World War II the Russians militarily occupied half the European continent. The Russians picked their leaders. They wrote their laws. They brutalized their people and took whatever they wanted.
When the Soviet Union collapsed, all of these peoples who had suffered immensely under the Russians were desperate to get real security and protection from the Russians.
Russia is the ONLY cause of NATO enlargement because the people of Eastern Europe always knew they were going to be invaded again as soon as the Russians succeeded at some form of economic capitalism.
Russia is the only cause of this war.
