YOUR BITCOIN WALLET CAN BETRAY YOUR PRIVACY WITHOUT LEAKING A SINGLE PRIVATE KEY. What if a transaction exposed connections between bitcoin you received from completely unrelated sources? That's one of the privacy risks of Bitcoin's UTXO model. Every time you receive bitcoin, your wallet gains one or more unspent transaction outputs (UTXOs). When you spend, your wallet selects which UTXOs to use as inputs. And here's where things get interesting. Combine multiple UTXOs in the same transaction, and blockchain analysts may infer that those inputs belong to the same entity. You could unintentionally connect: 🔸 Bitcoin received from an exchange. 🔸 Bitcoin received from a friend. 🔸 Bitcoin received as payment for work. 🔸 Bitcoin you've been holding for years. Different histories. One transaction. A potentially revealing connection. There's another threat: dust attacks. Someone can send tiny amounts of bitcoin to your addresses, hoping you'll eventually combine those UTXOs with your other coins and reveal additional wallet activity. This is why coin control matters.
