It’s vital you talk to your students about why we are taking action and why we are striking. To help you with this, check out these great infographics by @wawisloyola

Wonder why they left out teaching staff numbers? 2019: approximately 530 academic staff 2022: less than 400

This is exactly right ⬇️ How will staffing a university with huge numbers of hourly paid staff provide the best support for our students @RoehamptonUni? @ProtestUoR @RoeSSAH @VRoehampton

So not only I find that my tutor and supervisor have been fired, that the course I had signed up for two years ago is apparently not relevant as they have decided to close it, no lecturers to give out lectures, but on top of that, I also have no money. Thank you @RoehamptonUni

Yet another sad loss to our academic community. @RoehamptonUni have pushed so many fabulous academics out in their purge of academic staff. Over a quarter of the academics will have left over this summer @ucu @UcuLeft @ucu_solidarity

The last few months have been among the hardest of my life. I have been at Roehampton for 12 years and, in that time, I have developed enormously as a teacher & researcher. It is therefore with great sadness that I have decided to leave the university at the end of August. 1/4

this isn’t just an attack on our members, it’s an attack on the arts and humanities, and the ability of working class people to access them! the Tories are attacking education precisely because they understand the power of it. They are terrified of an educated working class.

Roehampton gives an opportunity to students that otherwise would otherwise be unable to study at University. Now access to all these subjects will be cut off to the demographic of students that need it the most. #RoeStopTheCuts

Devastating news about the future of our university is now confirmed🧵
After the university counsel vote, it is now officially confirmed that the cuts and programme closures are going ahead. This is what that means:

@RoehamptonUni has failed its students and staff, as well as the entire sectors it is closing off @RoeSSAH
Senior management at Roehampton University has made it clear they are making an ideological shift. One away from the Arts, Humanities, and social sciences, and away from all their students and academics involved in these areas. They have failed to prove these cuts are necessary and failed to listen to any of us in their “consultation period”.

I want the take away to be how devastating this is, do not believe the university when they say this will not change anything and know they are lying when they try to justify what they have done. @RoehamptonUCU @RoeSSAH @RoehamptonUni #RoeStopTheCuts
Current students are being lied to about the impact this will have on their studies, and the students of the future are being robbed of having the ability to enjoy an education in these fields.

Appalling that @RoehamptonUni are moving forward with these brutal cuts, despite clear evidence that they are unnecessary and based on false premises. Solidarity to my colleagues whose hard work will continue to be used for marketing.

this is why we fight, the impact these cuts will have will be detrimental for the access to arts and humanities for people from backgrounds that are usually deprived of these chances #RoeStopTheCuts @RoeSSAH @RoehamptonUCU

Students have been told by senior management that the University demonstrates its commitment to learning with pretty new buildings. In reality, students value ‘world leading’ research + expertise in a respective field! #roestopthecuts

THIS - the job cuts colleagues @UoRClassics face are terrible for #Classics, terrible for #inclusion, and should not be going ahead. The great work that they do with their students is leading to wonderful outcomes, in all kinds of ways. #SaveRoehampton

I'm in the process of writing a report on the two CA disability panels for @cucdbulletin / @CucdEdi and I cannot emphasise strongly enough how important Roehampton is and how destructive losing them would be to the positive development of inclusive and flourishing Classics.
