#PollOfTheDay Should @Keir_Starmer’s priorities for his @UKLabour government include constitutional reform- specifically should he #GetPRDone? Right now they don’t. #MakeVotesMatter Please comment and RT

Agreed, especially since the Commons vote on this only passed because seats don't match votes! 👇🤷‍♂️ See ALT text...

Indeed. If we count the number of people represented by MPs when voting on legislation, rather than simply counting the number of MPs voting, the result is very different. Here's a list of legislation that passed, even though the MPs opposing it represented more people 👇

Could implement policies against our will? 🤔 That's an interesting way of putting it. I think 👇 is an example of what you mean. Plenty more examples are available via @PropVoting 😬 #MakeVotesMatter xitter.cf/PropVoting/status/1660…
Public Order Bill: Second Reading The 290 MPs voting 'aye' represented 11,089,260 people. The 201 MPs voting 'no' represented 13,363,980 people. No majority = 2,274,720 But result was Aye because seats don't match votes.

It's always good to see MPs standing up for democracy. In this case, be sure to mention that the MPs voting against the REUL bill at 2nd reading represented more people👇 It would already have failed if seats matched votes 🤷‍♂️ xitter.cf/PropVoting/status/1584…
Division 73, 2022-10-25: Retained EU Law Bill: Second Reading Aye/No: 275/224 (Tellers: 280/225) PR recount: 222/295 If seats matched votes, result would CHANGE from Aye (by 51) to No (by 73). #MakeVotesMatter #FBPPR

Perhaps an American company?🤔 Parliament voted to prevent this via an amendment to the Trade bill👇 But seats don't match votes, so yeah... this could happen. #MakeVotesMatter xitter.cf/PropVoting/status/1381…
Be sure to remind them that the MPs who voted in favour of the NHS protection amendment to the Trade Bill represent MORE people than those who voted to block it. If seats matched votes, the NHS would already be protected👇

Happily, Parliament agrees with you. Unhappily, we have FPTP and seats don't match votes, so the bill passed its Commons stages anyway. But it should have failed - the MPs voting *against* it represented more people. #MakeVotesMatter

So the Public Order bill failed at 3rd reading - or rather, it would have done if seats matched votes... 🤔 #MakeVotesMatter #FBPPR

"The British people should be able to vote for their priorities..." @PropVoting agrees. There was a vote on the #BordersBill and the MPs opposed to it represented more people. But you're pushing ahead anyway because seats don't match votes 🤔 #MakeVotesMatter
We must fully take back control of our borders. That means leaving the jurisdiction of the ECHR. #Suella4Leader

Isn't a compromise better than ignoring people? If extreme views get votes, why shouldn't they be represented fairly? Isn't a "watered down" vote better than having your vote ignored? And if is so awful, why don't PR countries all demand FPTP?

How to read @PropVoting charts: The top two bars show the result in the Commons. Equal bars mean equal numbers of MPs from the parties. The bottom two bars show the proportional recount. Equal bars mean equal numbers of people who voted for the parties.

Parliament's view on deportations to Rwanda: on balance, we'd rather this didn't pass into law. That is, the MPs voting against it represented more people. But the bill passed anyway because seats don't match votes 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️👇 #MakeVotesMatter

Hopefully, the Commons will accept this too - the MPs defending the Lords will represent more people than those blocking it. That's much better than simply counting the MPs who vote Aye/No 🤔 @PropVoting means #MakeVotesMatter

The Commons is doing a good job of supporting the Lords so far: the MPs voting in favour of the LAs tonight represented MORE people than those blocking them, in every division👇 But they were still blocked because seats don't match votes 🤷‍♂️ #MakeVotesMatter
