Today, I’m stepping in to lead the $weave CTO. @transkatgirl has spent the past few months building @universalweave, drawing on roughly 1½ years of experience trying to build a worthy successor to the original Loom. During that time, I’ve watched people use her work for short-lived launches, farm the attention surrounding it, and disappear while she continued building. @transkatgirl has already shown support for the $weave community, so I think this is the right time for us to return that support, bring sustained attention to her work, and build a community that actually understands what exists underneath the ticker. Before focusing on $weave, here’s what everyone should understand about @universalweave and why I believe the idea behind it could become far more important as AI continues to evolve. Most AI interfaces still operate like messaging apps. You ask a question, receive one answer, and continue down one timeline. If you want to explore another direction, you regenerate the response, overwrite the previous answer, or open another chat and lose the structure connecting everything together. But intelligence isn’t naturally linear. When humans think, we explore multiple possibilities. We compare ideas, return to earlier assumptions, test different outcomes, discard some paths and combine the strongest parts of others. A Loom brings that structure into AI. Instead of treating a conversation as one endless scroll, it turns it into a map of possibilities. You can branch from any point, generate several different continuations, explore each one independently, return to an earlier path, and edit, split or merge nodes without losing everything else. Think of normal AI chat as one road. A Loom gives you the entire map. Imagine asking an AI to help build a product. Instead of receiving one plan, you could branch the answer into a low-budget approach, a technical approach and a growth-focused approach. Each path could branch again, be developed independently, compared side by side, and eventually merged into one stronger strategy. Now imagine that same structure applied beyond a single conversation. Developers could explore multiple implementations of the same feature, compare debugging paths and preserve working alternatives without filling several disconnected chats. Researchers could branch different hypotheses, follow competing interpretations of the same evidence and return to the exact point where their reasoning began to diverge. Writers could develop several versions of a scene, character or ending while preserving the entire creative process instead of replacing earlier drafts. Game developers could build complex dialogue trees, quests and interactive narratives where every decision creates another possible world. Teams could map strategic decisions, simulate different outcomes and collaborate on the same branching document without collapsing everything into one final answer too early. AI agents could attempt several strategies in parallel, allowing humans to inspect the reasoning paths, compare the results and combine the strongest parts. Education tools could adapt explanations into different branches based on how each student understands a subject. Creative tools could branch prompts, concepts, images, stories or entire worlds from the same starting point. The important part is that Universal Weave is content-agnostic. It isn’t restricted to one chatbot, one model or even one type of content. It provides reusable primitives for building branching interfaces around almost anything. That’s why this is bigger than simply adding a “branch conversation” button to an AI app. Universal Weave is a public-domain Rust library designed to handle the difficult infrastructure underneath those experiences.
