On this day, September 21, 2026, we celebrate and remember the Father of African Independence and First President of Ghana, Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah (1909 – 1972), whose vision for a truly united, truly sovereign and truly powerful Africa inspired generations of Africans to come. From the Decade of African Independence, to the Organization of African Unity (OAU), to the All-African People’s Revolutionary Party (A-APRP), to the groundbreaking book, Neocolonialism: The Last Stage of Imperialism, Nkrumah laid an intellectual and ideological foundation for Africa in the modern age that no amount of Western t*rrorism could ever destroy.
Nkrumah was overthrown in a CIA-backed coup on February 24, 1966, but his Pan-Africanist vision lived on. It is alive today in the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), and it falls on Africa’s current generation to make this vision a reality for the rest of the continent.

"This is how [Kenyan President William] Ruto got into politics...through dirty mafia-type stuff," said Orina, the founder of the 'Sell Afrika To Afrikans' initiative, in comments to fellow Pan-Africanist Ahmed Kaballo of Sovereign Media.
Orina explained Kenya's history of goonism: a political practice that involves hiring goons - informal groups of young men, often masked and armed - to disrupt protests, attack political rivals and intimidate civilians.
"Voter bribery and political goons didn't start the other day," Orina said, noting that it existed during the time of Kenya's first president, Jomo Kenyatta.
Nonetheless, Orina added that the phenomenon was "on steroids in 1992" during the election campaign of then-president Daniel Arap Moi, who formed YK92 (Youth for Kenya 1992) - a "dangerous" and "diabolical" youth wing of the ruling Kenya African National Union (KANU).
With the aim of ensuring that Moi emerges victorious, YK92 was tasked with hiring goons to interrupt rallies and bribe voters. Orina also blamed YK92 for tribal propaganda that k*lled many in deadly clashes.
As Orina noted, one of the most prominent figures in YK92 was none other than current president William Ruto, who was a student leader at the time.
"All those dirty tactics that Moi used in YK92...Ruto was there," Orina said, adding that the current president "didn't come into politics through clean politics".
Kaballo asked Orina whether the goonism situation has never been as bad as what is being witnessed during Ruto's presidency.
"That's because the leader of the country started off with the same tactics that Moi taught him," responded Orina before Kaballo responded ", so he's doing what is expected of him."

Le 19 mai 2026, le Rwanda et les États-Unis ont signé à Kigali un mémorandum d’entente sur la coopération dans le domaine du nucléaire civil. Le projet prévoit notamment une coopération technologique et la formation, tandis que Kigali travaille avec l’entreprise américaine Holtec International sur le développement de petits réacteurs modulaires. Le contraste interpelle immédiatement Kinshasa. La RDC possède d’importantes ressources uranifères historiques, mais c’est son voisin rwandais qui construit aujourd’hui un partenariat nucléaire avec Washington.
Le problème dépasse donc largement la question de l’électricité. Il touche à la capacité d’un État à transformer ses ressources stratégiques en influence géopolitique. Pendant que Kigali cherche à se positionner dans les futures chaînes africaines du nucléaire civil, la RDC reste largement absente de cette dynamique. Et cette situation intervient alors que des enquêtes récentes ont mis en lumière la présence d’uranium dans certaines exportations congolaises de cobalt. Une enquête du Financial Times et de Lighthouse Reports estime que des quantités importantes d’uranium auraient ainsi quitté la RDC entre 2000 et 2024, principalement dans des cargaisons destinées à la Chine.
Le Rwanda n’a donc pas besoin de posséder l’uranium pour développer un programme nucléaire civil, et l’accord signé avec les États-Unis ne constitue pas un accord de transfert d’uranium congolais.
Qui contrôlera demain les technologies, les partenariats, les compétences et les chaînes de valeur liées au nucléaire africain ? Si la RDC continue de considérer ses minerais uniquement comme des produits à extraire, à exporter ou à monnayer contre une pseudo protection militaire, elle risque de rester en dehors des secteurs où se crée la valeur stratégique.
L’enjeu pour Kinshasa est donc de passer d’une diplomatie des ressources à une véritable diplomatie de la puissance. L’uranium, le cobalt, le cuivre, le lithium et les autres ressources stratégiques ne doivent plus être considérés séparément. Ils doivent être intégrés dans une stratégie nationale combinant industrie, énergie, technologie, recherche scientifique, formation et sécurité. La question n’est plus seulement de savoir combien vaut le sous-sol congolais. La véritable question est de savoir quelle puissance la RDC veut construire avec ce sous-sol.
