This is the number of baby sea turtles estimated to survive until adulthood. Their life is full of dangers, and we aim to do our best to protect this endangered species right here on Sal Island.
Thanks to our committed team, partners like #TUICareafoundation and volunteers we make sure adults and babies make their way safely to the sea every year.

Yesterday we carried out a mission with the National Police, the Armed Forces, and Fundação Tartaruga, with detection dogs to identify and combat illegal sea turtle trafficking, in the north of Sal Island.
Two people were arrested and two turtles were rescued and then released.
This mission is part of a larger project which is financially supported by The Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund).@UKBCFs
The hunting, trade, purchase, and consumption of sea turtles is a criminal offense in Cabo Verde.

To understand the mechanisms of sex determination we use #genomics and #epigenomics tools. We identified genes that are different between sexes at birth to use them as biomarkers. With those, we can now address the impact of warming on population viability. @ProjetoBioSal
