What does the current Ebola outbreak tell us about global preparedness?
At #WHS2026, we asked Maria Van Kerkhove from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Reflecting on the lessons of the Ebola outbreak, she emphasized the importance of early detection, protecting health workers, and strengthening countries’ preparedness and response capacities.
“There are outbreaks that are happening all the time, and we have to have countries that are resilient, that are ready for this, being able to have early detection, protecting health workers who are caring for patients.”
