Friendly reminder that students are capable of using academic language. For example, when subtracting we should teach students that they are “decomposing” & not just “borrowing from next door”. Let’s not limited our children by only using cute language #edutwitter #teachertwitter

If you haven't introduced solving linear equations with bar models, I highly recommend it. Here's why:

I don’t know how to teach it, but one of the most important things as a teacher is to give yourself grace. You will fail daily but you will succeed yearly. #edutwitter #teacher #Teaching
Note to self: Actually implement lit circles in my class this year. Do yall have any resolutions for this year ? #Edutwitter #education #teachertwitter
Can’t stress this enough, effective teachers take time in the beginning of the year to explicitly teach how to engage in think-pair-shares. In my class, we use silly prompts to model the protocol and non-examples to ensure students are clear of the expectations during a TPS 🙌🏾
⏰ A little thinking time can transform your classroom conversations!

Incredible news coming from LAUSD:
Our students collectively, as a district, scored the highest ever on the SBAC or CAASPP state testing ! We scored even higher than our pre-pandemic levels 🙌🏾

Teaching undergrads in their very first semester of student-teaching is both rewarding and eye-opening. You can feel their nerves and uncertainty—but also their passion and potential. Watching them grow into confident educators is the best part of this work.

I’ve started plugging in student essays into Chatgpt in order to create a reading quiz to test students on their own papers to see if they actually wrote them, in case you are wondering where the AI arms race is at.

I’ve never been a big “anchor chart” guy but I will say that a wonderful side effect of making anchor charts before teaching a lesson is that you really internalize the content prior to teaching it #EduTwitter #TeacherTwitter #TeacherLife
PSA to teachers cleaning their room this week:
No, you probably won’t use it next year and if you do, you can find it digitally.
Throw. It. Out.

If you’re not a cutting and pasting or artsy teacher, become one during testing. I can tell how much my kiddos appreciate getting off a screen and doing something with their hands after state exams. #EduTwitter #education #sbac #testing #elementary
Hate how much of our curriculums focus on the Spanish invasion portion of the Indigenous People’s history and much less on how they thrived for centuries. Displaying them as victims so quickly to our students is a disservice to their incredible culture.
During testing season, principals should provide us with plans and materials for a lesson that is meant to be solely just for our kiddos to have fun and de-stress. State testing is so grueling. #testing #TeacherTwitter #edutwitter

I don’t know who needs to hear this but your PhD doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to be finished.

One of the teachers got attacked by a student today. Drew blood on both of her arms from scratches and bites. They weren’t going to send the child home and the teacher said if they don’t then she’s going home. AS SHE SHOULD. When are they going to protect us as teachers?!
