July 1, 2026 marks the start of a new chapter as I begin my role as Deputy Dean: Research, Innovation, Community Engagement and Postgraduate Studies (RICEP) in the Faculty of Health Sciences at North-West University (NWU) in South Africa.
Grateful for the opportunities ahead, the colleagues Iโll work alongside and the chance to help advance a culture of high-performance research; enabling collaboration across academia, industry and society, while positioning the faculty as a leader in digital transformation and AI.
Pleased to share my latest commentary published in the South African Journal of Sports Medicine:
โThe Next Frontier of Athletic Intelligence in Sports Medicine and Exercise Science.โ
AI is transforming how we assess movement, manage injuries and optimise athletic performance.
However, technological advancement must be accompanied by critical evaluation, inclusivity and ethical governance.

Congratulations to our colleague Navi Pillay on being awarded the 2026 #NobelPeacePrize!
Her unwavering commitment to justice, human rights and accountability is a source of inspiration for the United Nations and millions of people around the world.

2026 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Navi Pillayโs commitment to universal legal principles and her firm moral compass are constants in a long career. Born into a family of Indian Tamil origin under apartheid in Durban, South Africa, Pillay became a lawyer and legal pioneer, confronting deep structural discrimination, segregation and exclusion. A common thread runs from her early work defending Nelson Mandela and others who stood up against apartheid to her service as a judge in some of the key international court cases of our time.
This yearโs laureate has significantly enlarged the scope and impact of international law. She has served as a judge on the High Court in South Africa, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Court. She was the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and, until recently, she chaired the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Today Navi Pillay is a judge on the International Court of Justice in the case where Myanmar stands accused of genocide.
In historic international court cases, she has shown that legal measures can help prevent acts of war and violence. Navi Pillay has also contributed to strengthen the institutions of international law. Her independence, expertise and steadfastness have made her one of the most respected international jurists of our time.

A HUMANOID ROBOT JUST RALLIED A SHUTTLECOCK AGAINST A HUMAN OPPONENT IN BEIJING.
No script. No pre-programmed routine.
Every shot forced the same pipeline in real time. Track. Predict. Reposition. Swing. Reset. All before it touches the ground.
This is why labs use sports as a testbed. A dance is scripted motion. Badminton is scripted motion plus a human actively trying to break your prediction on every shot.
A person adjusts instantly without thinking. For a humanoid every tiny correction is its own sensing-computation-motor loop.
The opponent was looking for the edge of what the machine can handle.
They haven't found it yet.

Steve Waughโs Final Stand: A Classic Farewell
Steve Waugh signed off in the only way he knew - by fighting till the very end.
With Australia staring at defeat, he crafted a defiant 80 and shared a crucial 142-run stand with Simon Katich to rescue a draw against India.
Fittingly, his final Test innings ended with Anil Kumble bowling him and Sachin Tendulkar taking the catch, as the SCG rose to salute one of cricketโs greatest competitors.

I don't think people understand what Spain has actually built...
Barcelona's under 12s, pulled in from every corner of the map, moving the ball like they have been doing it for TWENTY YEARS
