Many thanks to @Michel_Poiccard & @NCKC_IR for great editorship that helped to bring our article to life! A Buddhist intervention in rethinking climate change and energy security. An irony that the book in pic appears alongside ours 🫢

📣publication alert 📣 My utmost pleasure to work with @NCKC_IR again🎉We explored an IR blind spot—IR foundations have been influenced by medicine, yes, but a particular one—and rethought such foundations with East Asian medical insights. Open access🔓
📢New publication! 📢I’m happy to say that my collaboration with @ProfTripleC has again been productive.
"Reimaging IR's biomedical foundations" is now out in CRIA (OA) as part of a forthcoming SI on the ‘The medicalisation of/in global politics’🎉

Snapshots of a summer without vacations (2): happy meat eaters verified that K-dramas are real! @o_rutazibwa @caatc105
I recall I often got the “so-what” question from my PhD supervisor but I didn’t know (and still don’t quite know) how to embrace anxiety as a researcher. Look forward to reading the piece with graduate students here 🌱

Ending a 24-hr trip to Okinawa. Not for data collection like last June but for seeing my friend and his terminally ill mother. For the first time in my life, I wish I could speak better Japanese. I wish I could be good at comforting people when they are suffering.
This song has been attacked or appropriated by nationalists of many tribes. I rarely listen to heavy metal and I can’t even understand its Taiwanese version without lyrics. Still, it’s pertinent to me when commemorating war deaths on 15 Aug. youtu.be/heF_NPJbv8Y
It has been a very difficult semester. Haven’t finished marking. Haven’t finished writing/commenting on papers as promised. Offended my best students. Still, I got a pen with my name on it from the first Korean student in my career. I won’t give up. I’ll keep going. #gamsahabnida
Come join us for this community conversation on Okinawa-Taiwan relations (with free food and drinks!) if you will be in Okinawa tomorrow 📢📢 (otherwise radio silence continues until I finish a paper 🥲)

Was deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Linklater, a genuine thinker who introduced me to the world of IR theory but also pointed out what I should dig into is critical security studies. I deeply miss his guidance, generosity and smile. Rest in peace, Professor! 💐

Many thanks to my host @NCKC_IR for holding a high-quality policy panel on the intersection between the war in Ukraine and East Asian security. Was in disagreement with a main panelist over some questions but the overall discussion was very productive 👏🏻👏🏻
Many thanks to @ProfTripleC, Dr @AlfredGerstl and Dr Weigelin-Schwiedrzik for a great discussion yesterday!🙏🙏 It was a pleasure😊
One of the few occasions I put on my foreign policy analyst hat. Also my first policy panel outside Asia. Many thanks to @NCKC_IR for the invite as well as reminding me of the need to engage with a wider audience!

My second publication with Dr Nina Krickel-Choi @NCKC_IR is now available @ReviewPacific! Don’t miss this open access article that will refresh your understanding about ontological security and the origin of the Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands dispute!
Happy to share that mine and @ProfTripleC's new article "Defending the islands, defending the self" is now published in The Pacific Review!🎉🎉tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.…
It uses an OS lens to highlight the role of Taiwan's derecognition in shaping the Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands conflict
@Ryukoku_IntStud @RyukokuGARC Please help circulate this publication alert. Many thanks 🥳🎉
A succinct account of extraterritoriality in China as a legal device of imperialism, but its conclusion is a bit too far. The PRC isn’t just skeptical about int’l law without its input; it violates such law even when it had given its consent.

The PLA drone didn’t enter Japanese airspace, but it’s clear that Okinawa wouldn’t be safe in a militarized Taiwan Strait contingency.
