The Times story is complete nonsense and is pure political briefing from the Govt. I told NHSE, DHSC & the SoS before the last committee meeting that the deal fell short. Only to their surprise, it was rejected. I shook the SoS’s hand today as we walked into the room. I wonder what is briefed next that I’ve ā€˜agreed’ šŸ™„

Really excellent interview by @fletchjack of @TheBMA laying out the issues underline these strikes, clearly and calmly. I will be doing the first on call today and fully support these residents standing up for their rights.
"No one will die because of doctors' strikes this Christmas." Dr Jack Fletcher, chair of the UK resident doctors committee, says there has been too much scaremongering over the industrial action. @theJeremyVine | #JeremyVine

Labour MP @OliverRyanUK said on Monday that resident doctors got a 29% pay rise ā€œlast yearā€. But the 29% figure for doctors in England actually represents the combined effect of several pay rises over three years, including the current one. fullfact.org/health/resident…

This lovely ecard (available for sharing) is by Anne Bowes, illustrator of the Cedric stories (I'm the author). Social and health issues, including #strabismus, feature in my storytelling so that children can see themselves represented and having adventures! Happy Christmas😃

Half of trainee British doctors finishing this summer had no job lined up. Yet the NHS is poaching foreign doctors. One in six of Nigeria's are now in the UK. The real scandal isn't pay: it's a broken training pipeline. My column:- times-comment.com/nhs

Our national study found that for every one hour with patients, UK resident doctors spend four hours on admin. In @bmj_latest today, we break down why this isn’t just an inconvenience, it’s a safety risk.Ā  1) Fragmented EHRs → endless copy-paste + re-entering data 2) Trainees turned into scribes 3) Less training, less confidence, less preparedness We suggest: • Reassign admin to allied staff • Joined-up IT that fits clinical workflows • Minimum patient-facing time requirement in training • Clinicians co-designing digital tools If you work in healthcare: what’s one admin task you’d automate or reassign tomorrow? šŸ‘‡ Your answers might shape the fix-list. Thank you to my co-authors @KaranChhatwal_ @HamaadAKhan and Professor Stuart D. Rosen, and BMJ editors @Juliet_hd and @jolie__neill. You can find the link to the full BMJ piece in the comments. Staggering profiteering from the 5 main private companies providing cataract removals to the NHS. £169 million in 2023-24 alone. A profit margin of 32%. This is taxpayers' money being squandered on vast private payouts. Efficiency, @wesstreeting?
