Thousands upon thousands of women defied social conventions, put on men’s clothes, and did what they wanted. Often, the only way we know about them is through court records and this talk highlights some of those women and what they were up to. Norena Shopland is a Welsh author/historian specialising in the history of sexual orientation and gender identity. Her book Forbidden Lives: LGBT stories from Wales (2017) remains very popular and she also writes on Welsh history with books such as The Welsh Gold King and Women in Welsh Coal Mining.
