The UK government's ruthless and reckless policies that "go for growth” require us all to ask the essential questions that Donella Meadows - mother of systems thinking - set out decades ago. So join me in answering these questions... 1/n

Holding back tears, this Afghan girl begs the Taliban to let her get an education "We want to study, please let us study." Heartbroken Afghan girls have been denied access to their schools. A broken promise by the Taliban who said they could return today #LetAfghanGirlsLearn

Every evening Ukraine's President #Zelenskyy addresses his nation. Tonight for the first time, he did it in English. Calling on people everywhere to show their solidarity "Come out of your offices and homes, show your support to the Ukrainian people" #UkraineRussiaWar

Horrifying reports from #Mariupol; thirsty people draining water from radiators; streams contaminated by rotting bodies; dogs feeding on corpses; people eating dogs & scavenging for food in bombed buildings. Apocalyptic nightmare in a place where, 1 month ago, life was normal.

Horrific events in Ukraine are rightly dominating headlines. But important news today in Russia: the Kremlin’s most vocal critic Alexei Navalny (already in prison) has been convicted of fraud in another trial (inside his penal colony). Sentenced to 9 yrs in maximum-security jail.

30 years ago, when the appalling siege of Sarajevo began and Bosnian Serb forces hit civilian targets, their supporters would say the dead bodies we filmed were just shop mannikins or actors. Russia’s supporters say the same today when yet another atrocity happens in Ukraine.

I am sure I will die soon. It is a matter of a few days. In this city, everyone is constantly waiting for death. I just want it not to be too scary. – testimony of a woman in #Mariupol

The @UN Charter is based on the sovereign equality of all its members. It calls for “respect for the principle of equal rights & self-determination of peoples”. These norms must not be undermined. All disagreements must be resolved by dialogue.

There are many confusing discussions on conditions for 🇷🇺🇺🇦 peace. On neutrality it should be remembered that 🇺🇦 had neutrality in its constitution when 🇷🇺 invaded in 2014. And 🇷🇺 had guaranteed its territorial integrity in Budapest memorandum in 1994 as well as other documents.

As Russia's invasion grinds on, civilians across #Ukraine have to seek refuge from missiles and shelling below ground. We spent the night in a shelter in #Kyiv, with local residents who dare not risk sleeping in their own beds. With @Goktay @Wburema @N_sostynska

In the event you are not angry enough, do read this excellent comparison between Russia's purposeful attacks on civilians - and their ineptly insolent whitewashing attempts - first in Syria and now in Ukraine. From @EliotHiggins: ft.com/content/12865cb3-5a7f…
