Replying to @ProfEspie
@ProfEspie was very engaging on BBC this morning re sleep. Wondering what my sleep shoe size is.
Thank you @TubbyBats. The evidence is that a rest is not as good as a sleep. Cells are regenerated only in sleep
#BBCBreakfast has @ProfEspie a Professor of sleep studies discussing tips on how to sleep.
His giving some great advice so worth having a look at.
Prof - how would meditation work instead of the 10 minute nap? There’s often the saying that it can be as good as a nights sleep.
Thank you @KatinkaNewman for raising this important issue. People with insomnia, and their medical doctors, are well and truly stuck. Because there is an evidence based solution for insomnia - CBT - it’s just not funded in @NHSEngland. Hard to imagine that any other medical condition would be restricted to second line treatment only, and failure to provide first line treatment! Besides antidepressants are not even licensed for insomnia. Astonishing really. @BritishSleepSoc @UniofOxford @NDCNOxford @OxSCNi @ESRS_Sleep
Sharing an article I wrote in today's Daily Mail about how antidepressants are being prescribed for insomnia sometimes resulting in debilitating long term symptoms including emotional bluntness, tinnitus, constant headaches. Thanks to @profespie for his contribution.
Thank you @chrisdjtaylor. Great to meet you at @EABCT @BABCP. Thanks to everyone organising the meeting and to folks attending. Sleep matters! @UniofOxford @OxSCNi @ESRS_Sleep @BritishSleepSoc

💤What set the book apart for us was its practicality. Apart from offering a comprehensive introduction to sleep, insomnia, and the key components of CBTi, helpful metaphors and examples of how to communicate CBTi principles make it easier to connect with patients. 🧵2/3
Thank you @UniofOxford @OxSCNi
📘It was with much excitement that we dove into the newest must-read on CBTx for insomnia by our very own @ProfEspie. We found “The Clinician's Guide to Cognitive and Behavioural Therapeutics (CBTx) for Insomnia” to be both accessible and incredibly useful. 🧵1/3
