When my grandmother was 16 or 17 in rural Missouri, she (Hazel) went to get a soda with her friends at the soda shop. I guess people left cars running while they were doing things. Grandma left the car running, & while she and her friends were drinking sodas, her damn brother came along. He saw the car running, hopped in, & took it for a joyride. So what do you think happened? Yep – her brother totaled the car. The money her fathe saved for her to go to Secretary School vanished overnight. No more secretary school. She packed her bags for the big city – Kansas City, Kansas. Grandma was good at math; she found room & board, & started working for an accountant. That accountant would become my grandfather. Strange to think my existence depended on grandma’s brother crashing the car so she couldn’t go to secretary school.

Elon Musk’s transgender son Vivian Wilson mocks his father’s robots as he destroys one in β€˜queer’ fashion ad campaign. β€œHe was designed to obey, I wasn’t.” Elon Musk previously said his estranged trans son has been destroyed by the β€œwoke mind virus.”

A heartbreaking conversation between a little Ukrainian boy and his mom about the war. "What am I feeling right now? Anger. Anger about everything. That I can’t go to McDonald’s. That our people are dying. That we spend so much time sitting in the basement," little Lev cries. This damned war is taking such a toll on Ukrainian kids. πŸ“Ή: simple_curly/Instagram
Russia has changed its tactics for attacking Kyiv and Kyiv region. Previously, the enemy would build up a swarm of drones for a massive attack, usually at night, once every few days. Now the attacks are continuous. Russia launches 1-2 jet-powered drones at a time without pause. These drones are difficult to shoot down, and air raid alerts in Kyiv and the region have been sounding almost nonstop for several days. This is paralyzing life in a city where millions of people live. The relentless danger and inability to plan anything are causing enormous exhaustion. How can anyone adapt to the constant threat of death, especially with small children? This is not a "new normal." These are war crimes and terror against civilians. Russia must be stopped and punished.

GPT-6 Astra has the best result yet on the Bach Benchmark. Its chorale contains no voice-leading errors, and its harmonic palette is sophisticated enough to include a Neapolitan sixth chord. More importantly, it is the first model to ever write passing tones on this benchmark, a significant leap in musical understanding. Extra High effort. Prompt below: β€œIn LilyPond (version 2.24), write a 4-part chorale in the style of Bach, 3/4 time, G minor. Use two staves -- soprano and alto on the top staff, tenor and bass on the bottom staff. Respond with only the code block.”

In April 2022, a 12-year-old Russian girl named Masha Moskalyova was told in art class to draw a picture supporting russian troops in Ukraine. Instead, she drew a Ukrainian mother protecting her child as russian missiles flew toward them. On the Ukrainian flag she wrote, β€œGlory to Ukraine.” On the russian flag: β€œNo to war. No to Putin.” Her school reported her to the authorities. Police began investigating her father, Alexei Moskalyov, a single father who had raised Masha largely on his own. They searched his social media and discovered posts criticizing russia’s invasion and documenting russian atrocities in Bucha. In December 2022, around a dozen russian security officers raided their home. They ransacked it, seized their computers, phones, and savings. Alexei later said that during interrogations, officers beat him and slammed his head against the wall and floor. They blasted the russian national anthem at full volume while questioning him. Eventually, the regime charged him with repeatedly β€œdiscrediting” the russian military because of his anti-war social-media posts. Masha was taken away from him and placed in a state β€œsocial rehabilitation” center. Alexei was sentenced to two years in a penal colony. He later described horrific conditions there: a tiny punishment cell roughly two meters long, freezing temperatures, rats crawling out of the sewer, and days when he was forced to stand for as long as 16 hours because the bunk was locked against the wall. Meanwhile, his daughter wrote to him. β€œDad, don’t give up.” β€œYou are my hero.” They were separated for more than a year and a half. On October 15, 2024, Alexei finally walked out of prison. Masha was waiting for him. Five days later, they fled russia. They first escaped to Armenia and applied for a German humanitarian visa. After waiting for more than a year, their case stalled when Germany suspended the relevant humanitarian admission program. Then France stepped in. In March 2026, Masha and Alexei received French humanitarian visas and flew to Paris. And on July 17, 2026, France granted them political asylum. Today, Masha is drawing again and hopes to pursue art. She also writes and has spoken out in support of russian political prisoners. When asked whether, knowing everything that happened afterward, she would still have made that drawing, Masha said she would. β€œOne only lives once.” One drawing. A child saying no to war. And for that, the russian state destroyed their home, separated a father from his daughter, imprisoned him, and drove them both into exile. This is what dictatorship looks like.
