Durbin: The timing of Mr. Gaetz's resignation from the house raises serious questions about the contents of the house ethics committee report. We cannot allow this information from a bipartisan investigation to be hidden from the American people.

Johnson two days ago: "The Speaker of the House is not involved in that. Can't be involved in that." Johnson today: "I'm going to strongly request that the Ethics Committee not issue the report because that is not the way we do things in the House."
“The rules of the House have always been that a former member is beyond the jurisdiction of the Ethics Committee,” Johnson said, when asked if the public has a right to see the report, given Gaetz will serve as Trump’s top attorney. “And so I don't think that's relevant.”

This is a great and really important thread from Deeva documenting all of the ways in which the Kindred episode only underscores the need for *more* reforms in federal judicial workplaces—and is not by any means a vindication of the existing policies and procedures.
I’ve been promising a longer thread about Judge Kindred’s resignation, the Order about his misconduct, and ongoing advocacy efforts and reforms to reporting procedures for employees facing misconduct in the federal judiciary. So here goes. 1/ npr.org/2024/07/09/g-s1-8991

This is why “Make America Great Again” is so insulting. It wasn’t great, for a lot of folks, for a long time. The country moved forward. Stop trying to drag us back.

If you can’t navigate disclosure forms, you shouldn’t be interpreting the constitution.

Seriously, you have the Speaker of the House suggesting that he has spoken with justices of the Supreme Court about political matters. Is there some reason this is not a huge scandal.
Nice to know that Speaker Johnson not only knows SCOTUS Justices "personally" but suggests he has spoken to them about this case which may come before them and they told him they're not happy with it, and that he expects they will throw out the conviction.

Sometimes it takes a lot of work to make a small but important thing happen. Starting with @ChristinaTkacik's article about the effort to get this historical marker (see: bit.ly/4dJbSjX) + some help from @mkorman & the persistence of Rev. Johnson this finally happened!🙏
The Maryland Department of Transportation recently joined members of the Holy Pickers Union Center and Shiloh United Methodist Church in Crisfield, Md., to celebrate the unveiling of a new roadside historical marker for the 1938 Crab Pickers Strike.
