I’ve read this tweet a number of times, now. I honestly still can’t find anything to object to.

Just in case some of you multi-phase flow guys have not seen. Granular flows matter! (Not a silo: @dougsjunkdrawer)

FFS indeed, what century are we in! Unbelievable gender stereotyping, how is that compatible with a role in social mobility.......
For fuck's sake. Maths and physics are beautiful subjects. The barriers to entry are NOT difficulty, but attitudes like this and what is still a massively male dominated field and all the challenges that come from that when girls and women consider their careers.
Looking forward to tomorrow's @CornellMAE colloquium! Featuring Prof. Petros Koumoutsakos @314159K: "Artificial Intelligence for Fluid Mechanics". 4:15pm on zoom: cornell.zoom.us/j/9909484238…

Beautiful visualisations.
Vortices are shed in the wake of a fixed cylinder placed in flow for Reynolds numbers larger than 47 (Re>47). These are videos of this vortex shedding at three relatively low Reynolds numbers. Visualizations are done by Bridget Benner, a PhD candidate in my lab.
Congratulations to the very talented Rachel Hendrikse for successfully navigating her PhD viva this morning. Her thesis was on modelling surfactants via dissaptive particle dynamics etc. She even did a few experiments! Some lovely lamellar phase simulations:
