As the incoming head of Carleton's journalism program, I'm deeply committed to the steps we're taking today to foster greater diversity and inclusion @JSchool_CU and to tackle institutionalized racism. This is just a beginning.

Israeli settlers are out of control, because the Israeli government allows them to be. And while attacks on diplomats or journalists command attention, as they should, this happens unnoticed to Palestinian farmers all the time.
#Breaking: European diplomats, including French and Polish representatives, who went to the West Bank to observe the olive harvest, have been violently assaulted by Israeli settlers.

I can’t think of any other place in the world where people can regularly attack American citizens, American journalists, like this and our US political and media elites say nothing. No scandal, no outrage, no calls for action or accountability.

Deeply saddened by the passing of @HelenBranswell, a journalist of integrity and professionalism. Throughout her career, Helen demonstrated an unwavering commitment to evidence, science and truth, helping the public understand some of the most complex and consequential health challenges of our time. At a moment when misinformation competes with facts, her reporting was a trusted source of clarity, honesty and insight.
We at @WHO were privileged to work with Helen over many years, whether through one-on-one interviews or the hundreds of press conferences she attended during COVID-19 and beyond. Her questions were always informed, thoughtful and fair, reflecting a deep commitment to helping the public understand the facts and their implications for health.
On behalf of WHO, I extend my sincere condolences to Helen’s family, friends and colleagues. She will be greatly missed.

Turn this ranking of world perception of countries on its head and see who ranks best.
Israel, having committed genocide in Gaza, is the world's most unpopular country. Then North Korea with its totalitarian repression, Afghanistan with its gender apartheid, Iran for shooting protesters by the thousands, then Trump's lawless United States. xitter.cf/ShibleyTelhami/status/…

What better day to showcase the 2nd group of students to join Carleton's hugely successful Certificate in Journalism in Indigenous Communities, led by @duncanmccue. Students do most of their work remotely, from community, but did gather on Manitoulin Island for an initial session

A good friend and a great journalist, one of the lone voices to cover the Rwanda genocide consistently throughout early 1994. He told me once that an editor asked him to try to 'balance' his stories more and show the other side. "There is no fucking other side," he replied.

CNN: “Early today, CNN journalists were denied access to the White House grounds. CNN’s mission to report on the U.S. government will continue regardless of any attempts to restrict physical access to the White House and other government buildings, or any other attempts to impede our journalism.
