These are very serious allegations levelled by a Sikh youngster, and an independent probe must be conducted into the allegations.
WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING IN PUNJAB? Why are simple Punjabi villagers being treated like TERRORISTS?! This is the same boy, who just yesterday, was openly protesting against guru dokhi @bhagwantmann and the absolute failure of @AAPPunjab. You know how they tried to silence him? By electrocuting him! By beating him black and blue, by removing his turban and manhandling his beard. On the orders of ‘master’ @arvindkejriwal, my Sikh brother’s dignity and integrity was attacked! THIS IS UNPARDONABLE! @Akali_Dal_ stands firmly with the boy and his family and will extend all help for his recovery. We will also take this matter to court! We are not a banana republic. We are PUNJAB and we will not accept this kind of DICTATORSHIP! #PunjabVirodhiAAP @India_NHRC @SGPCAmritsar

SGPC delegation meets Mohanjit Singh, a Sikh youth from Sheron, Sangrur, who was allegedly subjected to police torture. SGPC assures full support, including medical treatment and financial assistance. The delegation says accountability must be fixed over the alleged assault and desecration of his hair and Sikh articles.

Uttam Kumar did not merely become the Mahanayak of Bengali cinema. He became one of the reasons Bengali cinema learnt how to dream about itself. Today, on his 100th birth anniversary, I find myself returning not to the mythology around him, but to the screen. To that extraordinary face, that deceptively effortless voice, that peculiar mixture of confidence & vulnerability which made him impossible to watch passively. Born Arun Kumar Chattopadhyay on 3 September 1926, he came to cinema through years of struggle & failure before becoming the defining star of Bengali popular cinema. His filmography is almost a map of Bengali cinema itself. From Basu Paribar & Sharey Chuattor to Agni Pariksha, Shap Mochon, Sagarika, Harano Sur, Indrani & Saptapadi; from Bhranti Bilas, Nayak & Chiriyakhana to Antony Firingee, Grihadaha, Chowringhee, Mouchak, Bon Palashir Padabali, Amanush & Anand Ashram, he moved effortlessly between romance, comedy, melodrama, literary adaptation, psychological drama & the darker territories of character. He could be the romantic ideal one evening &, in another film, quietly dismantle that very ideal. And then there was Nayak. That was where I fell in love with Uttam Kumar. Not the star Uttam Kumar. The actor. Watching Satyajit Ray place him inside that train, stripping away the machinery of stardom until the superstar was left alone with his fears, compromises, memories & private failures, was a revelation to me. Nayak is a film about fame, but Uttam Kumar makes it something more dangerous & intimate. He plays a man who has mastered the performance of being Uttam Kumar & is suddenly forced to confront the person underneath. Ray understood precisely what he was doing. He took Bengal's biggest star & turned his stardom into dramatic material. Uttam Kumar, with extraordinary intelligence, allowed himself to be dismantled. That is why reducing him to the Suchitra-Uttam romance, magnificent as that partnership was, feels almost unfair to the man. Sharey Chuattor, Harano Sur, Saptapadi & the great romances are part of the legend. Nayak, Antony Firingee, Chiriyakhana, Grihadaha, Amanush & Bon Palashir Padabali reveal the restless actor behind it. His first National Award for Best Actor, shared across Antony Firingee & Chiriyakhana, arrived precisely because the industry eventually had to acknowledge what audiences had known for years. A century after his birth, I do not think Uttam Kumar needs preservation. He needs rediscovery. Watch him without nostalgia. Watch him alongside the great actors of world cinema. Watch the stillness, the timing, the eyes, the economy. Watch how little he does when lesser actors would be desperate to perform. That is where his greatness lives. Stars belong to their time. Great actors survive it. Uttam Kumar did something rarer. He made time itself look like a supporting actor. Mahanayak, indeed. But today I would rather call him simply what he was: Uttam Kumar. And that name needs no adjective. @nfdcindia @mib_india @aicwaofficial – at Kolkata, India

“I was being tortured. I was subjected to electric shocks. Hair was plucked from my beard. I suffered cuts from blades on my thighs, and salt was rubbed into the wounds.” Shocking details by a young man who says he was detained after protesting against Bhagwant Mann at Village Shero in Sunam. Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann have displayed a deep hate for People of Punjab; following "HitlerShahi" People of Punjab will give AAP a befitting reply.
