Rajya Sabha MP Er. Gulam Ali Khatana has welcomed the Government’s decision to cancel NEET-UG 2026 following allegations of paper leak and irregularities.
He stated that the move will help restore students’ confidence and ensure a fair & transparent examination process. The matter has now been handed over to the CBI for a comprehensive probe.
NTA has clarified that no fresh registration or additional fee will be required for the re-examination.

📍Aligarh Muslim University
Visited the Aligarh Muslim University campus and held a detailed discussion with the university administration on various important academic, administrative, infrastructural and developmental issues related to the institution.
Reached the university as a member of the AMU Court and met Vice Chancellor Professor Naima Gulrez at the Administrative Block.
In this meeting, Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Mohammad Mohsin Khan, Registrar Professor Asim Zafar, Controller of Examinations and Admissions, Proctor Professor Naved Khan, Finance Officer Mr. Nurul Salam and other senior officials were present.
During the meeting, the university administration provided information about AMU’s academic achievements, institutional expansion, research activities and outreach initiatives, along with detailed discussion on challenges related to infrastructure, staff shortage and financial resources.
A major issue in the meeting was the severe shortage of hostels. Officials informed that currently the university has hostel capacity for about 16,000 students, while the total student strength has crossed 36,000, due to which a large number of students are forced to stay outside the campus. This is a matter of concern and formal proposals should be sent to the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission (UGC) for hostel expansion and strengthening infrastructure.
The residential character of AMU is an integral part of its academic culture, which needs to be strengthened immediately.
It is a matter of concern that teachers are not appointed on time despite starting new academic courses.
Complaints have been received from students that some courses begin, but appointments of teachers remain pending, affecting studies and academic quality.
Information regarding the policy of appointing teachers before starting new courses was sought from the university administration.
Information regarding vacant permanent teaching posts in various departments was also sought and asked when regular appointments would be completed.
Excessive dependence on guest and temporary teachers may affect long-term academic continuity and institutional excellence.
The condition of AMU’s off-campus centres—Murshidabad (West Bengal), Kishanganj (Bihar) and Malappuram (Kerala)—was also discussed. It was informed that these centres are functioning without adequate sanctioned teaching and non-teaching posts. Officials informed that these centres are being run through the university’s limited resources as there is no separate and adequate budgetary provision for them.
These centres were established with the objective of expanding higher education in educationally backward areas, therefore they should receive continuous institutional and financial support from the Government of India.
New AMU centres should also be opened in other parts of the country including Assam and Jammu & Kashmir.
Issues related to non-teaching employees were also discussed.
Concern was expressed over delay in promotions, vacant posts and pending service-related grievances, and emphasis should be laid on timely resolution.
Keeping in view the importance of emerging technologies, the preparedness of the university in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced technical education was also reviewed.
Courses related to AI are being taught, but they are yet to be developed in a comprehensive and fully equipped manner.
Need for high-capacity computing systems, specialised laboratories, advanced software infrastructure and trained technical manpower should be emphasized.
Information regarding campus recruitment, placement statistics and participation of companies was sought on the subject of employment and placements.
The placement cell should be strengthened further so that students can get better employment opportunities.
The issue of decline in international student enrolment was also discussed.
