NYC Council Speaker Julie Menin on this morning’s vandalism of a Capital One branch on the Upper East Side, where windows were smashed and graffiti reading “DROP ELBIT” and “PAL ACTION” was left on the entrance:
“What the NYPD is doing now is they're investigating it as a hate crime. They're gonna do a fast investigation; we appreciate their work on this, and the community is deeply concerned and upset about it.”

From Prof Biswajit Dhar, a resident of Chittaranjan Park: Yesterday (Saturday 17 October) evening, about 20 CRPF jawans armed with lathis marched into the B Block Puja Pandal in CR Park at 11.30 pm, when large number of people were celebrating the festival with family and friends. The Puja Committee members strongly protested against this intrusion and chased them out. I took this video when they were outside the main gate. Several of us lent our voices in support of the Puja Committee members arguing that any police interference in our most important festival was just not acceptable. Durga Puja is not a festival for only the Bengalis, but all other communities also get together to enjoy themselves. This is what I have seen for as long I can remember. Why then were paramilitary forces sent to spoil the atmosphere in such a festival? Should we now expect intimidation by the paramilitary forces whenever we congregate? We must demand answers before it is too late.

Brazilian footballer Richarlison has released a video alleging that far-right presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro and his lawyer, Willer Tomaz, forcibly took his island in Angra dos Reis.
According to Richarlison, Flávio Bolsonaro wanted to buy the island, but when he refused to sell it, Flávio and his lawyer resorted to fraudulent means to obtain ownership through the courts, despite the island belonging to him.
Lawyer Willer Tomaz is currently under investigation by Brazil’s Federal Police on suspicion of involvement in the theft of retirees’ money.

Ordinary citizens are treated as if they were hardened criminals, a practice that has persisted in this country for a long time. The current movement has clearly exposed how people are being detained, whether during the day or in the evening, held in custody throughout the night, and only released the following morning or evening. Under what authority is this justified? By what law or order is it permissible to keep detainees held in custody all night long? Legally, individuals, especially women, ought to be released after sunset, yet this is not happening. Furthermore, there is a new narrative being pushed, one of chaos and anarchy. What kind of chaos and anarchy? The one you unleashed in Central Delhi? The people of Delhi cannot even breathe a sigh of relief; whichever route they take to get to work, they find it blocked. You are spreading chaos and anarchy across the nation. Please, spare the people of India. Impeach Gyanesh Kumar and halt SIR, so that the ordinary citizens of this country can breathe a sigh of relief, feel at ease, and have their voting rights ensured."
She adds, "They (Police) demanded my name, address, and other details. For a long time, they wouldn't even let me speak or consult with a legal advisor (lawyer). Our lawyers spent 5–6 hours trying to reach me; it was only after we managed to call them that they were finally allowed to meet me. These are the kinds of things these people have been doing for a long time."

Detention cannot become disappearance. Delhi Police must disclose where Neha is, ensure her access to he r family ,friends and comrades . moreover police should explain the grounds for her detention. @DelhiPolice - remember you are accountable to the law—not above it.
