Just finished reading “Microflora Danica: the atlas of Danish environmental microbiomes” by @MadsAlbertsen85 and many more. What an incredible resource for all future microbial ecology studies! Thanks to all researchers and funding that came together for this.
Our massive project "Microflora Danica: the atlas of Danish environmental microbiomes" is online! 5 years ago @PerHNielsen and I started the project of our dreams! To reveal the microbes of an entire country! But, why? 🧵Read on 1/ biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

I'm excited to use some of the presented ideas and databases in my PhD thesis!

David Penny and collaborators influenced much of my scientific curiosity and thinking. Sad to discover he passed. Thank you for your work! Cannot recommend enough his papers from the late 90s early 00s.
Sad to hear that David Penny has passed away. It's an end of an era in molecular evolution: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_…

#Ireland is not a ideal place to do #PhD. No employee status and the stipends are lower than the minimum wage. non-EU researchers like myself face a 1000€ yearly research expense for the residence permit and mandatory health insurance that @scienceirel refuses to reimburse.
Today we sent a public letter to @PhilipNolan_SFI, Director General of the SFI @scienceirel, the largest funder of PhDs in Ireland. We asked for unequivocal advice to all SFI centres to let non-EU PhDs claim expenses for mandatory insurance and the Irish Residence Permit 1/6

Everyone moving from twitter to mastodon is very likely to fail because it is a collective action problem, benefits depend on others actions. Here's how it can succeed. It will require your commitment for 1 month to do a few things. Read and retweet if you commit to do them.
Even if the Mastodon migration only affects #academictwitter, it could be a great success. Social media is like the local pub. The food quality is irrelevant. As long as the people I want to talk to and hear from are there, I'm happy. I'm at: nerdculture.de/web/@briannos…

I am very proud of this work. We put together publicly available sequencing data (plus more data kindly provided by several colleagues) to perform the first meta-analysis of microbial electro synthesis. Thanks to all coauthors for the great job, and in particular to @s_mills03
Pleased to share this new paper "A meta-analysis of acetogenic and methanogenic microbiomes in microbial electrosynthesis" led by @s_mills03 and @PaoloDess1 in @Nature_NPJ NPJ Biofilms and Microbiomes @Chem_light @ISMETsociety Read the #OpenAccess paper- rdcu.be/cWam9

I finished my PhD about 2 months ago, and I just want to share that: *I spent >5 of 6yrs convinced that I was uniquely behind or lost or dumb *I worked 50+hrs some weeks but 15 others *Rest and hobbies helped my science Struggling doesn't mean you don't belong. @OpenAcademics

✨Exciting things are happening!✨ Last month, after 6 months of hard work by 10 PhD students of the Agape team, our open science course was introduced to the public for the first time at the Innovations in Doctoral Education conference in Dublin 🇮🇪
