Change, when done well, need not compromise character. The careful stewardship of everyone involved in our clubhouse renovation has ensured that we have modernised without surrendering the traditional essence that defines Prestwick, all while elevating the history on show.

On 17 October 1860, one hundred and sixty-six years ago today, the very first Open Championship was played on our 12-hole links. Eight golfers gathered, competing not for prize money but for the Red Moroccan Leather Belt, a prize established to honour the Champion Golfer after Allan Robertson's passing. Willie Park Sr would hole a 30-foot putt on the last to beat Old Tom Morris by 2 shots. Little did these men know what their invitational, which became an Open the following year, would come to be. #TheOpen #GolfHistory

Our commitment to detail extends well beyond the heritage on our walls and the homemade ingredients at the heart of our menu. Case in point: the wee red boxes dotted through the clubhouse and Dormy, inspired by our course’s celebrated tee boxes.

Number 17 - our Dormy, and the best place to stay when playing our links. Just metres from the club entrance, a three-minute walk into the high street, and with views across the links to whet the appetite.

Number 17 at Prestwick is absolutely SUBLIME. If you ever look at add Prestwick to a Scotland golf itinerary, staying overnight at Number 17 is a MUST!
Since its introduction, Number 17 has become an integral part of Prestwick life, delivering practical benefit to our membership while meaningfully elevating the standard of hospitality we extend to our visitors. Many great clubs have a Dormy, and now we have ours.

The 6th is the first of the long holes at the top of the course, created in 1883 when the course was extended from 12 to 18 holes. It often gets overlooked amid the brilliant opening and closing stretches, but it is a wonderful hole in its own right, building to a superb green.

With our Prestwick film released this week, it's only right to shine a light on one of the (many) incredible holes on this links. This is 'Hole Notes: Cardinal', the 3rd at @PrestwickGC. 🧵 1/9

The chaotic original 12-hole routing at @PrestwickGC played over the land now occupied by holes 1–3 and 13–18, before the changes of 1883. Given how cramped - but brilliant - those holes are today, it's remarkable that twelve were once squeezed into the same ground. It's not too late to watch Sam take it on with hickories:bit.ly/4ipj3CO

There's not much out there about the original 12 holes at @PrestwickGC, but here's our best attempt at showing the routing - including the infamous killing zone. It's easy to see how the course worked for the 1860 Open, with a field of just eight players. Today, it's a touch more chaotic.

David and Frank are two of just seven men since 1851 to have appeared on the same list of Head Professionals as Old Tom Morris. A distinction they both deeply cherish.

While The Open has not returned to our links since 1925, Championship golf has continued to flourish here ever since. Here are some images from the 1987 Amateur Championship, won by Paul Mayo, who was part of the GB&I Walker Cup team that same year.

One hundred and seventy-five years of history has bestowed our links with some distinguished hole names, and here are the favourites of our Caddy Master and Head Pro. What is your favourite?

While many associate Old Tom with our links, James Ogilvy Fairlie was arguably the most important figure in our history. Upon his death, the committee minuted: "...the members desire to express their sincere regret at the loss of one who may justly be looked upon as the Founder of the Club and whose untiring zeal & constant exertions on its behalf the present prosperous position of the Club is largely due."

Our 12th hole dates back to 1882, when the course was extended to 18 holes. Its exceptional green is fiercely protected by two hungry bunkers at the front, making for one of the day's most exhilarating approach shots - and one that's important to get right at this stage in a match.

The 12th marks the conclusion of play on the 'new' land, before your return to the original site for the closing stretch. While many regard 13 as the start of our famous finish, 'Wall' is a hole of such quality that it merits equal standing in that prestigious company.

We remain deeply honoured that Bernard Darwin, golf's most celebrated chronicler, bestowed considerable praise upon our club and course. Here are some extracts from his 1938 account 👇
