WHEN A YOUNG RUNAWAY BECOMES SOMEONE ELSE’S PROPERTY This is one of the most disturbing things I’ve seen. A man documenting homelessness alleges that a young runaway was deliberately introduced to fentanyl so she could be sexually exploited. He says he later saw her completely naked in the street. If these allegations are true, we’re not just talking about homelessness or drug addiction. We’re talking about predators taking advantage of someone who may have nowhere else to turn. How many young people end up on the streets looking for safety, only to find themselves surrounded by people who see them as something to exploit? We spend so much time judging homeless people for their addictions that we sometimes forget to ask how they got there. Nobody should be written off as another addict on the sidewalk when they could actually be a victim crying out for help.
