In addition to the online petition from a student at UPenn, there is now an open letter regarding Robert Schuyler's actions, written by @ayushi_nayak, @archaeoliz, and @MelinaSeabrook, that needs signatories. Please do so, and share it widely!

Petition calling for the firing of Robert Schuyler from UPenn for his shameful acts at an archaeology conference last week, where he used a Nazi salute & phrase to intimidate a junior academic woman when she tried reclaiming the time he took from her. chng.it/9hNKkJSmft

I have (to my surprise) recently surpassed 1,000 followers! Since many of you found me because of my work on disability in ancient Greece, I want to make a little introduction. I am a classicist and an archaeologist and I do study disability in ancient Greece. /cont.

Important message here for anyone considering going into archaeology but is concerned about "needing" to do field work. As Dr. Wolff says, "Collections research is archaeology!"

Important point here. Archaeology has such a mess right inside its own house with how many Indigenous remains that NEED to be looked at so that they can be returned to their places and people. xitter.cf/nmj428/status/13434883…

Policing "proper" English is classist and, given that it's aimed so often at Black folks, it's deeply racist, too.
Be very clear, I have 2 degrees including a master's from Johns Hopkins. I'm a brilliant orator and an even better writer. If I use ::finna::: in a statement, it's intentional. FUCK your elitist judgement and standard.

Important open letter condemning University Press of Florida's decision to publish a book called "Repatriation and Erasing the Past", by Elizabeth Weiss and James W. Springer, wherein the authors romanticise anthropology's more explicitly racist past. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F…

Hey archaeology twitter, help me out here. One of our field school students from 2019 is now working in CRM. As a woman of color she is struggling with the lack of diversity on her crews. Based on my Twitter feed, she isn't alone and she could use some of your support. 1/

When an educator has the ability and is allowed the space to foster students' creative learning and expression, those students *will* create magic.
Y'all. Y'ALL! my undergrads put their collective feet into these final keyword projects & un-Presentations for my Black Queer Cultures course. not only did they develop everything from zines to songs, but they actually *distributed* them to real life audiences! a few examples:
Well. That escalated quickly. I'm a physician, a Black one, with a whole Black family. The U.S. medical system has lost the trust of Black communities because of past and ongoing treatment. Approaches should start with this acknowledgement and transparency.

Remember that those who like to dominate (individuals, patriarchs, experts, groups, nations, etc.) frequently use big ideas such as neutrality, progress, objectivity, even kindness, humanitarianism, and equality, to mask unequal power structures. It’s important to be critical.

PAM is comfortable with our statement. You'll note that, not only has he never been to India, he is also not Buddhist. He has repeatedly said he just "admires" it. You are also ignoring that much of the problem is with his responses, which boil down to white settler misogyny.

This is a clear case of an academic who has fetishised "The Orient" from the comfort of their armchair. They've never been to India and yet feel that they can explain Indian's own culture to them.
Replying to @ESBAArchaeology
Archaeologists of colour are used to attacks like this from the academic establishment when we suggest archaeology, anthropology, and ancient history could be less extractive and colonialist as disciplines. The countries, cultures, and religions that we study are not aesthetics.
