90% of complaints about capitalism are complaints about the Second Law of Thermodynamics.
This is a really important point. Leftist and fascist rhetoric always revolves around an imaginary unified mass (e.g. "popular will"), and their policies are eliminationist, because they have no way to handle disagreement.
The monarchy is above politics but it is not anodyne. On issues where there is general consensus, like supporting Ukraine, it is quite appropriate for the monarchy to support that.
.@drositamba. It is a good question. Charles has abandoned any pretence of impartiality on this highly contentious issue. The damage to the monarchy is considerable.

Much punchier accusations from Sir Malcolm Rifkind - a former defence and foreign secretary:
"I choose my words very carefully. I think this week Donald Trump has shown himself as a person to be repulsive; as a President of the United States to be a disgrace to his own people as well as to his international responsibilities.
"We all know his actual reasons for this are a grubby attempt to win a few more votes in the midterms by trying to get oil prices down.
"In order to achieve that, he has not only betrayed Ukraine in the middle of a war, fighting for its very existence, but he is also directly - not indirectly - directly responsible for the deaths of many Ukrainians who will not now be protected by the attempts that have been successfully made using intelligence provided indirectly by the United States."

Not so long ago, 98% of people lived on farms and regularly saw animals slaughtered.
Not much veganism back then.
The greatest film ever made. It's got everything - Malkovich for your acting chops, Nicky Cage for your action, Steve Buscemi for your comedy, John Cusack for the gays.
Either that, or La Dolce Vita.

In The Right Way I wrote that hospitals exist to make people better. Their success should be measured by how well they serve the people who depend on them, not by unrelated targets their managers have adopted.
A hospital where green targets “took priority over the clinical requirement” has forgotten what it’s for.
This is why the Conservatives will remove rules that encourage process and box ticking, like PSED and net zero targets, so public bodies have to concentrate on the job they exist to do.
Chilling piece about the QEUH, the Glasgow hospital with an unfortunate habit of killing its patients. This accusation is extraordinary and yet somehow also thoroughly unsurprising.

It's not about the tiger's life, it's about the tiger's value.
Suppose it was an expensive and irreplaceable machine in your factory. Would you wreck it to try and save a judgement-proof man who deliberately jumped into the gears? There must be a point where the answer is no.
Yes. Obviously you shoot the tiger and hold the man responsible for the tiger being killed.
I worry about people who pick animals over humans. I don’t have a pet, but if I did have a pet I would certainly sacrifice it to save the life any human—even a stranger I’d never met and never would meet.
Strange pagan-like morality to do anything else.
Alcohol is a coarsener, destructive of polite behaviour even in moderation, and, in excess, a huge toll on civilisation. Drinking should be legal but carry the same public shame as smoking.
Rare Bowman catastrophic L.
Replying to @julianlehr
Alcohol, being disinhibiting, allows people to build trust between and have fun with each other when they wouldn’t be able to do so soberly. It helps to temporarily level status hierarchies and allows more social risk-taking, which is why people often meet future lovers when they’re drinking and drink when building relationships. People can be silly together when drinking, and people who aren’t ever silly are to my mind more prone to collective fanaticism.
There is a time and place for sobriety - work and time with children especially - but alcohol underpins a lot of the social interactions that make trust-based civilization possible.
Say what you like about Boris Johnson, but he has been unwaveringly right on Ukraine.
It is sickening that the USA is now lifting sanctions on Russian fuel, and transparently ridiculous to blame Ukraine for the spike in prices that obviously began with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Putin is murdering innocent Ukrainian civilians every day. The Ukrainians are fighting for their lives. And yet the White House is apparently determined to force American drivers to bankroll Putin’s slaughter. It won’t work and I doubt it will make much difference to the price of fuel.
If we want Russian oil and gas back on the world market then let’s end this war - with a free, sovereign and independent Ukraine.

Even aside from the shameless lawlessness in NI, it's clear nation-level devolution has failed across the UK, embedding centrifugal principles into the union.
Dissolve the assemblies.
I urge people to just look at the facts
The Orange order were given the legal right to march quietly down a road
It would have taken 10 minutes and impacted no one
Instead nationalists have ignored the law and turned to mob rule to stop it
They've again demonstrated that the Belfast Agreement and its outcomes aren't worth anything when the Nats don't get their way
I agree.
But notice that, by this test, we would deport Tony Blair, and the 277 other Labour MPs who voted for the unamended Racial and Religious Hatred Bill in 2006.
The domestic Left is, and always has been, the gravest threat to traditional British values.
