Senior Government Officials Join KPS Leadership to Mourn Mr. Lazarus Opicho, Senior Assistant Inspector General Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Dr. Deborah Mlongo Baraza and Principal Secretary, State Department for Public Service, Prof. Jane Kere Imbunya, today joined Kenya Police Service leadership in mourning the late Mr. Lazarus Opicho. The senior government officials joined the Principal Deputy to the Deputy Inspector General-KPS, Mr. Patrick Tito, Senior Assistant Inspector General and senior police officers at the late Mr. Opicho’s residence at Uhuru Camp, Nairobi. Speakers paid tribute to the former Commandant, Security of Government Buildings and VIP Protection, remembering him for his professionalism, character, dedication and generosity. Mr. Opicho died on September 29, 2026, after a short illness.

The message was emphasised during a visit to Naivasha Police Station by Director, Directorate of Gender and Child Protection, Dolly Oduori, AIG, who engaged officers on strengthening the handling of GBV and child protection cases. Police stations remain a critical first point of contact for survivors and children seeking justice and protection.

*East AFrican Standby Force Child Protection Training of Trainers* *Course Officially Opened in Naivasha* The Child Protection Training of Trainers Course has officially opened in Naivasha, with remarks delivered by the Director, Directorate of Gender and Child Protection, unit Dolly Oduori AIG who represented the Inspector General of the National Police Service, Douglas Kanja. In his remarks, the Inspector General emphasized on the united Nationas Security Council Resolution 1261 that mandates personnel in peace operations to receive appropriate training on rights and well being of children The 10-day course brings together 23 participants from nine EASF Member States, with a focus on developing a pool of qualified child protection trainers across the region.

He also officially opened the Daawa Symposium for Muslims in the Disciplined Forces a bi-annual national and regional event dedicated to unity and addressing key issues, including mental wellness. ​The DIG commended the strong leadership behind these achievements.
