-Oregon has the HIGHEST number per capita of registered sex offenders but only 2,030 are listed on the website. 32,759 are not listed. There is a huge classification backlog but they have been unable to fix it due to funding and needing more staff. -Oregon has the second LOWEST amount of police officers in the nation per 100k residents. Portland also tried to take money away from the police when they are already understaffed. -Oregon also has SB48 which is insane and makes our communities unsafe. The goal of the measure is to put an end to what many describe as Oregon’s “catch and release” system, where suspected criminals are immediately released before trial and a lot never show up. The current guidelines call for the immediate release, sometimes without bail or arraignment, for people arrested for hundreds of crimes, including 150 felonies, like auto theft, identity theft, second-degree arson, and FAILING TO REGISTER AS A SEX OFFENDER. -In Multnomah County alone, the DA’s office says a rough count at one point found roughly half of those accused felons released failed to appear for trial. They say in the vast majority of felony cases, no one in Multnomah County is tasked with finding those fugitives.
