This routine (from a roast) gets clipped up for Instagram a lot. There was also a gag in it about another comedian's miscarriage, which I now cannot find anywhere

A good starting point for getting MUP to work in Wales (given the inevitable cross-border pressure) might be to exclude drinks below 5% ABV. That's where problem drinkers aren't interested but where also MUP is depriving ordinary hardworking consumers of a bit of consumer utility
My first bit of cross border smuggling since the Welsh MUP for alcohol went to 65p. Stashed in my work locker to bring home another day. A sessionable stout, reduced to clear at £4 in a London Morrisons, would need to be £5.04 in Wales.

Maybe also wines below 11%. No street drinker is necking vinho verde

Welsh Minimum Unit Price - these 3.4% bottles of weak lager bought mainly by old ladies for family parties are available for £2.99 in an English Aldi, but must be sold for no less than £5.53 in Wales. What problem drinker is going to be interested in this?

The original MUP mainly increased the price of superstrong cider so your regular consumers didn't notice. It's now much more distortionary, and is increasing the price of weaker drinks that the tax system is supposed to be pushing problematic drinkers toward! What are we doing

Reminder that this isn't a tax either, so there's no public good from higher cost. The retailer just trousers the difference, they're obliged to by the Welsh government. A set of choices that we have made

Went to museum cafe yesterday and none of the staff were bluehaired/gender fluid/wearing 20 pin badges about their neurodiversity. I could only presume that this was a nod to fascism and left immediately, disgusted

The 2022-24 immigration spike was so absurdly large that the inevitable unwind (as some people failed to settle and returned home etc) might be enough to make the subsequent years appear to have negative migration.
I’ve seen enough. I’ve crunched the figures, leant on contacts and simulated our entire immigration and visa system in my head over 100,000 times. I am officially projecting 2026 to be the UK’s first calendar year of negative net migration in 33 years.

Went past again yesterday. A little girl was playing in it like it's a wendy house, so it's not completely going to waste

The 3rd item on the news page this lunchtime (for the publicly funded national broadcaster of Wales, no less) is an 'iconic clapback' to another dancer's comments by another dancer. Unbelievably smalltime and pathetic What are we even doing here, this is supposed to be a country

Surely 'clapback' isn't even in the lexicon for BBC headlines. People aren't reading BBC Wales News to get sub-2017 BuzzFeed reading matter, what the hell are the editors there even playing at

There were some elderly Spaniards behind me in the queue at the Toby Carvery earlier today. What an experience that will have been before them, their heads must still be spinning from it

We're going to need to have some national discourse about care worker quality - the recent carer visas didn't recruit people with care experience in any meaningful way and so there are just dudes everywhere purporting to be carers who aren't suited to it
Have just seen two care workers pushing a young guy around town in a wheelchair, but carrying on their conversation over the top of him in their home African language to completely exclude him from the conversation. Bad.

Faulkner once said that for every HR manager forty years old, not once but whenever she wants it there is the instant when it’s still not yet two o’clock on that August afternoon in 2024, Brat has dropped, the Kamala merch is laid out and people are smiling at each other in WholeFoods and Kamala and Tim Walz are making videos about White Guy Tacos and it’s all in the balance … but it hasn’t happened yet.

Long hot summers must make cask ale a very marginal business proposition unfortunately. In most pubs it was undrinkable clag for 3 months of this year. That's a lot of plant and capital put to waste
Marston’s Brewery closure plans branded an ‘absolute disgrace’ The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has strongly criticised Carlsberg Britvic’s proposals to close Marston’s historic brewery in Burton-upon-Trent. Read more here: morningadvertiser.co.uk/Arti… #MartonsClosure
