I wish people knew that most of the coral they see being sold has been ripped right out of the ocean… 😞 Our reefs are struggling enough with climate change as it is, we don’t need corals being stolen to have a 5% survival rate in someone’s living room fish tank! 🪸❌

Dark day in human history when we killed the last of the Egyptian Algae-back monitor lizard. (Biollante aegyptiacus). So many Megafauna hunted to extinction just so recently.
This is disgusting. Hunting and parading the corpse of a beautiful innocent creature you killed for fun is shameful.

I love these guys! This is a black sea hare (Aplysia vaccaria), the largest sea slug species in the world. They suffer little predation, due to toxins accumulated from the algae they graze on. How big do they get? The largest on record almost reached a METER long and 14 kg!!

what confuses me about discussions of this dress or anything adjacent is that its so blatantly in a light environment. theres no way it could be in the shade for it to be white rather than blue 😭 you can see an actual white and black dress right behind it 😭😭😭😭

This is animal abuse though :[ Crocodilians have notoriously sensitive skulls filled with mechanoreceptors more sensitive than human touch. So this is literal torture for them.
At a crocodile farm in Vietnam, workers shock the crocodiles before taking them to the abattoir.

this rhetorical tool of addressing events as happening vaguely “somewhere in Africa” helps paint the continent as a mysterious frontier devoid of political autonomy and significance, a giant wild with occult practices and beliefs
Somewhere in Africa, a whole community is living alongside snakes. They consider snakes as gods and they even have a festival to celebrate the snake god they call Vodu Dangbe. Children wrap the snakes around their necks without fear as part of their tradition.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The video and tradition are from the Hounwê ceremony in Porto-Novo, Benin, part of local Vodun Dangbé practices with royal pythons. bbc.com/afrique/articl… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Afri…
