Dr. Hakim Boulal, Regional Coordinator of APNI North Africa, recently represented APNI during a visit to 🇪🇬 Egypt to explore new partnerships with leading agricultural institutions and universities. He presented APNI’s role and strategic vision for advancing sustainable agriculture across Africa 🌍. At the Agricultural Engineering Research Institute (AENRI), a key center of Egypt’s Agricultural Research Center (ARC), Dr. Boulal met with Dr. Yousry Abd Elkawy Sh. Elsayed and AENRI staff to exchange experiences from APNI programs in North Africa—particularly in Morocco 🇲🇦 and Tunisia 🇹🇳—and discuss future collaboration in nutrient management, water–soil interactions, soil health, and ecosystem services. The visit also included meetings with academic partners at Zagazig University, the University of Heliopolis, and the American University in Cairo 🎓. #APNI #SustainableAgriculture #AfricaAgriculture #Egypt #NorthAfrica #ResearchCollaboration #SoilHealth #NutrientManagement #WaterSoil #EcosystemServices #AgriculturalResearch

The Africa Agricultural Extension Conference 2025, organized by Al Moutmir/UM6P, highlighted the vital role of building trust between researchers, extension professionals, and farming communities to accelerate the adoption of improved agricultural practices. Understanding Africa's reality, declining soil health, challenging climate conditions, and reduced crop productivity is essential for designing solutions that truly work on the ground. With the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit calling for doubled food production and tripled fertilizer use, the panel emphasized that meaningful progress depends on three pillars: credible science, strong partnerships, and deep farmer engagement. Solutions must be scientifically credible, legitimate, relevant, and aligned with the partner's needs. On-Farm Experimentation (OFE) was highlighted as an effective mechanism to co-create solutions with farmers rather than the linear, top-down approaches. OFE ensures that solutions grounded in the fundamentals of 4R Nutrient Stewardship and tailored to Africa's biophysical and socioeconomic realities have a higher likelihood of adoption, creating tangible benefits for farming communities. The conversation also underscored the importance of engagement at multiple levels: building research capacity within African institutions, supporting certification processes for extension agents, and deeper engagement with farmers through OFE. Together, they promote better land management, improved livelihoods, and long-term preservation of ecosystem services essential for Africa's agricultural transformation. #AfricaAgriculture #AgriculturalInnovation #AgriculturalExtension #SoilHealth #ClimateResilience #FarmerEngagement #OnFarmExperimentation #4RNutrientStewardship #SustainableFarming #FoodSecurity

🌱 Code in the Crops: AI is Transforming Fertilizer Use in Ethiopia For years, farmers relied on one-size-fits-all fertilizer advice—but results have been uneven. A new project is changing that by using 15+ years of on-farm trial data combined with AI and Machine Learning to deliver site-specific fertilizer recommendations. The outcome? More effective use of fertilizer resources, higher yields, lower costs, and more sustainable farming practices. See how data-driven insights are helping Ethiopian farmers unlock the full potential of their land. 🔍 Full article: loom.ly/iEmlOd0 #AIinAgriculture #PrecisionFarming #Ethiopia #SustainableFarming #FoodSecurity #SmartFarming #AgriInnovation
