This should be interesting👀👀 @sourcecred's original intent was valuing contributions on GitHub. It ended up focusing on non-code contributions (discourse, discord , other ideas), GH plugin was left basically undeveloped until now. @armitagelabs taking it in a new direction...
1/6 Today, we are incredibly excited to launch the beta of Armitage that enables...
Measuring and rewarding engineering impact with 0 config!
- Web3 ready
- Sourcecred powered
... All while being open source 🚀
That's quite a lot, so let's unpack 🧵👇

For a glimpse at ideas we're exploring with PlaceCred, check out @zen_bacon speaking on @sourcecred at this @globalunityorg Mastermind on impact measurement, which was featured in a recent GreenPIll podcast🌱
Was on GreenPill pod! Ok not interviewed...just gave 5 min talk on @sourcecred with 20 other speakers at Mastermind on impact measurement, which made it to episode. Still, good company. Worth a listen for a great helicopter tour of impact space in web3 and beyond 🚁🏔️🌱
When visualizing it in our mind’s eye, the fields of knowledge appear as an unfolding 2D grid, 80s cyberpunk style, with us flying over it in a little space ship. Which DALLE happily rendered 🤯
If you’re excited about this work please follow and help us narrow this down!

We left the timeline field in our Karma profile empty 🙄 We'd like more accountability here, but we're still grappling with the scope of work. As we survey the relevant literature and projects out there, new (to us) fields of knowledge are appearing at an alarming rate...

To *get Cred*, we plan to build reputation by posting updates on-chain via our Karma_GAP (@karmahq_) profile, which automatically publishes updates to our GC grant and generates attestations on Optimism via EAS (@eas_eth) ✍️⛓️😎

To *get attention*, we plan to build in public. Writing blogs for larger updates, Twitter/X for smaller updates, having conversations with those that engage, open sourcing any code written on Github, etc.

PlaceCred's strategy, as detailed in the blog below, has two prongs:
1) Get attention
2) Get Cred (reputation)

Freedom from accountability (web3's default) feels great at first. But without the feedback and motivation accountability provides, initial excitement fades into decay. It’s like having a potted plant and giving it sunlight but no water. Don't be surprised when it dies 💀

As we await the final tally on our Gitcoin grant through @tecmns (TEC), we thought we’d get started on the least fun task, Accountability 🧐😱 👇
