if you're switching into tech, try this:
Certificates are one of the worst investments a career changer can make. i've helped hundreds of people break into tech since 2022, and i can count on one hand the hiring managers who cared about a certificate. here's what they ask about instead: β†’ what have you built β†’ who actually used it β†’ what broke, and how did you fix it a certificate tells someone you finished a course. a deployed project with real users tells them you can do the job, which is the only thing they're trying to work out in a 30 minute interview. so if you're switching into tech, try this: 1. pick one boring problem a real business has (bookings, invoices, chasing leads) 2. build a small AI tool that solves it 3. get one real person to use it write up what happened, in public (linkedin). But that's only 1 project. Do 3.

People dumber than you are making millions. Today, Jake Paul and Logan were in the White House. They started off doing Vine videos for likes. Remember Vine? Yeah me neither. So if a couple of YouTubers can get into the most powerful rooms in the world, what’s stopping you from building that side hustle? What’s stopping you from learning to code, and building a proper career? An idiot in motion goes further than a genius at rest!

I consult at schools in the GCC on AI. I’ve visited multiple schools, and most of friends are teachers. And whilst I understand people leaving the Middle East due recently out of fear, this rationale is…interesting. For the ignorant amongst you, the UAE education system is largely built around British curriculum (with added Islamic values). British principals, Heads of Education, Most of the expat teachers. All that, coupled with the added safety and benefits of private schooling. It isn’t for everyone (Β£4k/year), but there are plenty of affordable options. Do your research before commenting πŸ‘
Mohsin from Islamic Finance Guru explains his decision to move his family back to the UK after spending three years living in Dubai. Why he moved to Dubai: To establish a physical presence for his firm in the region and better understand the local market. To take advantage of a specific window of opportunity to live abroad while his children were young. What he liked about Dubai: He noted a "can do" attitude and a general sense of optimism among the people. Many daily tasks were digital, seamless, and convenient. The ability to delegate domestic chores provided him with more time to focus on his work, his marriage, and his children. He found it easy to connect with other ambitious, like minded individuals. Contrary to expectations, living abroad encouraged extended family to visit more often, helping his children learn the importance of hospitality. Being physically removed from their home environment forced his immediate family to define their own traditions and values. Drawbacks of Dubai: He felt a lack of the "forgiving" nature of the UK legal and cultural system. He found it psychologically stifling to live in an environment with limitations on speech. He noted issues like poor air quality and a lack of specific British food items. Why he really left: There was no single catastrophic event. Instead, he reached a "fork in the road" regarding his children's education. He believes that good British private schooling is superior and decided it was the best choice for his children as they enter secondary school age. Mohsin does not regret his time in Dubai or his decision to move back. He views both moves as correct decisions for different stages of his family's life. youtu.be/hrVRj3fzDoI?is=eCVu…
